Well some how our drum majors finally persuaded our director to go to 1 competition this year. The thing is we still have people in the band who aren't devoted and really make the show look bad. Im scared that he wont let us go to another one (cause our moral will be lowered) since that's why he didn't want us to go in the first place. I think its a good thing we are finally going to a comp because maybe we can weed out people in the band that don't belong because they don't want to put in that much dedication. Has any one had a similar experience in High school like this? Dose it weed out all those weak links?

Not really, man. My band goes to many competitions, but that doesn't mean we don't have our fair share of people that could care less. I'm in a very small band, so we take anyone we can get, regardless of talent or dedication. For the most part, everyone plays the right notes and is on step, but you can tell the ones that care from the ones that don't.

If these people in band don't care about people seeing them slack off at halftime or in the stands, a contest isn't really going to be much different. It's the worst, but its just goes to show that a truly dedicated band is hard to come by.
