MY band is doing phantom of the opera this year, me and some of my friends worry that this show is going to used to much this year ( like pirates of the carribean last year)

so if your band is doing this show, or if you think phantom is an over used show speak up i want to know.

Thanks

Phantom is just plain overused, period. Marching, concert (cough*lastyear*cough), drum show (cough*ourshowthisyear*cough), anything.
Gee, I think I'm coming down with something.

we did phantom last yr, complete with the disappearing act and all, we wer able to get a best in class percussion with it, so the line music is pretty cool, but i think the show is a tad overplayed, my director has gotten like 4 offers for the box that the phantom "dissapears" into from bands doin that show this yr

I think it's gonna be overused...I know of 4 bands usin it so far. Of those 4, I know that 1 band isn't usin stock parts, but have some sick stuff written in place of it and is pretty cool. But yea...I foresee more Phantom of the Opera in the comin weekends.

Nobody could do it like SCV '89, that's all I have to say.

Wow- didn't we change subjects? But yeah- back on subject- the only reason that it's gotten so popular is because of the movie- it should have been popular back in 1989 and afterwards when Santa Clara Vanguard immortalized the show.

Oh it was popular back then as well. A lot of bands did that show for several years afterwards. I even learned the piano parts for the heck of it. And I did not even play piano back then.

No one will ever play it as well as SCV.

true, very true, no one can ever do what scv did in 89'

but we certainly are trying lol. i think it is an awesome show, and i love the drum parts to it, but i feel people in the stands are a little tired of it.... oh well we will still do great this year (hopefully) lol

Yes, last year. It's a pretty fun show. And technically it's a Tribute to Nascar if you are doing Key Poulan's "A Need for Speed."

But anyway, back on topic. I don't think that Phantom will be overused. I have yet to hear of any school in Vegas doing it.
