I agree with Temple. Repetition at a speed that they can play is the only way they will ever get it together. Just pushing them into it will only frustrate them more and thus decrease they ability to play at the moment. You have to first build up their confidence on the part especially in sequence. Then slowly start building up the tempo. It's your best shot at the moment. Good luck.

Oh yeah. Also with the eggbeaters, i'd say start slow. The best way to teach it to them is the count triplets while playing the eights. Take it slow like this and see how that works for you. Honestly, I can't see a useful application for it, but I remember those days in high school where it was fun just to make up crazy stuff like that. So, best of luck to you on that.
