ok well this is my first year in drumline im top bass. I can get my music down and memorize it pretty well and drill isnt that hard for me. But being top bass i have to watch the other 4 basses. Well they seem to dont care at all about it, think its just a blow off class i guess. And i try and get them to play the right part go to their right spots but they dont listen. Ive talked ot my director and shes talked to them but they just dont care...

if u have any ideas of what i can do to get these guys to actaully work...TELL ME

electric shock aversion?
i have a similar problem, sometimes it seems like im dealing with a bunch of retards...i think that if you really want them to work, let them know whats at stake, and if they keep screwing up, make them run laps...thats what works for me.

Or perhaps they just don't have the same desire you do? Maybe it's just that simple. Showing them videos might make them say "Yeah... more stuff we can't do" and will just discourage them.

Remember, when dealing with HS kids - it's not about the utopian answer, it's about the realistic one.

push-ups, push-ups, push-ups!!!
If your not the one to administer punishment, tell your drum captain. That will get them motivated. If not that....if you have a track around your field, make them run, if not, run laps around the field with their drums on. They'll get it one way or another. But with them not caring it sucks. Our cymbals are the same way. The only reason there in it is for gym exemption so they don't even try. But it definitely sucks when your trying to be the best, I know how you feel.

All push-ups, running etc does is waste time. You're there to learn how to drum, not build muscles.

Only real punishment thatw orks is taking away certain priviliges that the drumline usually gets.

Thats the problem right there.... The whole purpose of a drumcaptain isnt to give someone a stupid glorified position if they cant handle it. A drumcaptain needs to be someone that is responsible and gets respect from the rest of the drumline.

If theres no respect, then your drumcaptain has no business holding that position.

Which is why i am not a fan of drumcaptains.

You could try putting them in charge. The best way to teach leadership is to bestow in on someone.
