I'm a senior this year and this has so far probably been one of our worst drumline years yet because of our sheer lack of veterans we have this year. We only have 3 seniors out of the whole line instead of our usual 5-8 we have every year. We're marching 5 basses, 4 snares, 2 tenors this yer because of lack of interest it seems. 2 of the seniors are on snare, and the other on tenors (hes a good friend of mine), but the other snare player seems to be having some major problems. He didn't join band til his freshman year in highschool so he was completely new going into it so he didn't really have the same rythem abilities that the other players in the drumline had built up. So, now it's our senior year and he's on snare for the first time. He's not really a bad player, but anytime he gets with the line and plays its like he's just constantly off beat, it's like he has no tempo in him. He constantly drags or rushes, and it's honestly destroying our snare line, makes its almost a constant flam. I don't really know what to say to him or how to help him develop some inner rythem. Looking for some suggestions, of course practicing would help but this just seems to go further than that, I don't know what to do.
