first Drum Corps show I ever saw was in '86, the only show they lost that year..wow!

Sounds like you were one hell of a good luck charm.

Coincidentally, you played in the first drum corps show I ever saw -- the Pavilion show in 1990.

8 man tenorline, and their percussion feature had extra playing areas with "fire" fans. I'm sure those extra areas didn't generate sound, but they looked cool as hell when the tenors did crossovers on them

I'm kind of tied between two lines for two different reasons. One is the 2004 Santa Clara Vanguard line because of how insanely clean they were and because the show itself was great. The other and my more favorite of the two is Santa Clara Vanguard again in 1989 just because that whole show was unreal. It was actually my first exposure to drum corps. Also, my family grew up listening to The Phantom of the Opera original cast recording because my mom loved it.

Check out the '88 SCV drumline...that was a WAY better line. And the corps still played Phantom of the Opera.

I've heard that show, too, but I haven't seen it yet. I just prefer the corps in 1989. The music sounded much better and much closer to how the musical sounded that year in my opinion. The line was awesome in 1988, but I'd prefer to be in a still great line but a much better corps. That's just me, though.

Speaking of '89, my pick would be the '89 Cadets bass line. I love listening to the opening of their show with all the runs and rolls. That is one of my top favorite all time shows. Also the '00 Cadets with their extremely cool drum break, the tenors running around their drums, the horns playing each other's horns. Just an awesome show.

I was in the Cadets in 89. The whole line was just ridiculous. It's the only way to describe it. It was Aungst's first year as caption head. It was amazing music.
