If you have 4 other people who love it as well, it can be mighty fun. When everybody just clicks and plays there part right on the money, you just get that feeling.

If you get four other guys and you practice hard enough to where everybody is playing with the same technique and all the runs sound like one guy playing five drums its the coolest sounding accomplishment in the world.

It gives you a chance to learn good timing because of the splits.

I like to listen to them. They have a range of sounds. From an indoor line to an out door line they are all fun to watch and hear. In a way it brings the players together.

No one else on the line can have the weird connection that you do with the other people on bass with you. You have to trust those people so much, and know that they are trusting you in the same way. You keep the internal beat in the band, and in the line. You can have crazy tonal runs. Playing bass drum is just beautiful.

its a matter of team work.. i mean, it is one thing to get a good snare or tenor line, because they all play the same thing. but if you have a good bass line then thats even better because then you have 5 players that have 5 different parts that have learned to play them together and make it sound good. it is hard work to make 5 different drums and 5 different people play fluidly and exactly on time. cause once you miss your note thats it, you have screwed up the run and everyone knows. if one snare or tenor screws up, nobody can tell just from sound. you have got to rely on others to be there and when they're not you have got to learn to trust yourself.... i dont know, its just a feeling ya get when you hear that you are part of that amazing run, it is just flat out awesome.

totally.
It takes alot a lot more work from the 5 person bass line to get good than it does for the snares or tenors. No matter how anyone looks at it, the bassline puts in alot a lot of work to get good.

I love bass drums because split parts, the sound, and you don't always play the same hit, to me its like your solooing all the time, but I suck with my timing =/

it's like a solo all of the time, and when you're on a smoking bassline, everyone knows it.

Costa_Drummer1 said it. I like being only one of 8 people to solo in every song. Almost every note I play on the bass drum is a Solo. No one else has that part. It’s the only instrument in the band that you are truly unique and needed.
Plus the bass line is the closest section in the band.

yeah...that too.

I've already posted about this but I'm going to post again. All the hard work the bass line puts into playing 32nd note splits, sixtuplet splits and all that other funky junk. Its just the best feeling in the world to hear it all come together and people just know when you're a good bass line, regardless of them being a former musician or not.

And the fact that you solo everytime you put that drum on. You're one of 4-9 people soloing every song depending on the music.

i love it because its a team effort snares and quads can improvise each other if one doesn't know the part but if a bass drummer doesn't know the part the whole bass line goes down. so its a team effort you work as a team you succeed as a team.

I love it because you have to learn to work as a team and it's a lot of work but it's fun. My bass line isn't that good yet and we have a lot of trouble with tonels but when we do get it right and our directors really happy it makes me feel good to know that I can do it. Plus it helps yourf timing with other things. Like you have to have good timing and not rush or go to slow and that has helped me with my timing on drum set as well. I just love playing bass drum it's a lot of fun.

I love playing 2nd bass (or any bass drum) because of all the split parts and when your friends with people in the bass line it makes it even more fun. Playing the top bass drums is also cool because you get to play more notes.

I love the connection my bass line has. We all just like to have fun with eachother. All of us are so unique. I specifically love being on first bass, because to me, it's an opportunity for me to "show off" what I have to offer, since I get a lot of solo spots. When you're all in the zone together, you get such an awesome vibe, and it makes it so much easier to nail the splits.

I love playing bass drum because the basses are always the tightest section of the line because they HAVE to work together so much. It's different than playing snare and tenor. You all have to be on the same page all the time. And it's all about "the cool vibe" and once you have that, there's nothing better. It's like your own family. When everybody can just feel it and be able to play all the splits perfect. It's priceless.

Gotta love bass! I'm just in 9th grade, but our bass line is great. It's a good deal the drums, and a good deal the people. We have about 40 stories just from this one season of band, and almost all of us are marching bass for our first year (only one of us has marched a single season on bass before). And the runs, can't forget them. It's already been said a million times, but it's one of the best feelings drummers can have.

bassline is like an elite fraternity that only five people get into every year in the band. i like it because not only do you learn your part, but i have been learning everyone else's part as well. it is far more fun than snare or tenors. they get all the glory, but the basses are the ones who drive the band

The sound when you get a good bass part with clean runs can send goosebumps to anyone. Also, its knowing you're part of a team, a team that needs you. If you take someone out of a clean snare line, it still sounds like a clean snare line. Not much difference at all. Take a bass out and it instantly sounds all choppy, even if everyone else is playing the right part.

I like bass splits :]

I think it's the coolest thing when you're the ONLY one in the whole band AND drumline playing your part. Playing bass has also taught me that counting is CRUCIAL, especially scince I play 4th, which means I hardly ever play on the downbeat

My favorite part is that it's the hardest instrument in the battery. We can play the same thing as the snares or tenors but only lower. I like it when we groove, like on of our cadances "Sector G". Plus it sounds cooler when you can do a crazy fast run on a bass line against doing a solo on a snare drum.

I've always thought that the idea of taking a melodic drum part and splitting it up between several people is really cool to me. The comraderie formed between people in the bassline, and the amazing groove a bassline can form - there's nothing else like it.

i love bass drum because the bass line is the closest in the drumline. The bass line uses split patterns and all the players really depend on each other.
