I can play it, but there is more than just being able to play the notes. I mean i can play the notes, but I can't play it perfectly without any errors.

eagledrum, you can find Bachman playing "Opies Opus" on his "Reefed Beats" dvd, it also has "Opies Changes" on there as well.

I've worked on the beginning of it, but haven't got past that, still working on it.

i worked through it when i was going to do I & E. i haven't looked at it recently but at the time it was NOT the easiest thing to go through at all.

that could have been because i came from a less than stellar high school and i had never experienced any of that stuff before. so going through some stuff i had to work it all out and sorta "learn how to read" a lot of the more advanced stuff on my own before i made an attempt to learn it and play it.

Or you can find the videos on the Vic Firth website.

I personally can play a few passages at a slow speed, but not all of it. I haven't practiced it much recently though. There are other things to play out there.

I don't think I've ever seen Bill "have trouble" with anything before. I just looked throgh it on reefed beats and he starts concentrating really hard, buthe dosn't "have trouble". He did write the piece, you know. Opie is his nickname. But, anyway, that piece has different sections, each demonstrating a different skill ie. dynamics, "soft playing", "fast playing", scrapes... some parts are harder than others. If you want to pratice it you have to look at each section seperatly. The part most people would have trouble on would be the faster, scrape section. pratice diddles for decades or beatliceous, and it shouldn't be to hard. But keep in mind that it is just as hard or harder to play softer dynamics as it is to play faster, more complicated music. You just have to go through each section slowly, and play each part correctly, do not learn the whole piece and then "add in" the accents and dynamics.

The music for Opie's Opus and Opie's Changes are in his book Quad Logic, which is a must for any tenor player.

Hope I've helped.

Actually, he does have trouble with parts of it. On the Vic Firth website, on one of the videos, at the end, you see him walk away and if you turn up the sound, you can hear him say "Not perfect, but it'll do". After I heard this, I watched again more carefully, and there are parts that he obviously flubbs. Hitting heads dead center, rims, all kinds of things.

Besides, saying that since he wrote it he can play it perfectly whenever he wants to is like saying that since Henri Desgrange created le Tour de France, that he could win it every year (if he were still alive). That's silly - he wrote that years ago, and he's already hit his peak.

oh, yeah you're right. I haden't seen that particular video.

And I wasn't saying that just because he wrote it means that he always plays it perfectly, I meant that he would know exactly how he would want it played, and he sets amasingly high standards for himself, and he was probalbly concentrating on different things than what you listed, and I wouldn't expect him to play up to his standards on a piece that he wrote himself, anyway.

Alright everybody. I just recently created a profile here and I was reading some forums and came along this one. I know where the beginning of Opie's Opus is. (the video) It's not the whole thing. That's all they have. Go to bludevil.org Once you get there, scroll down and click on the Dynasty logo. Then goto media. Scroll down to a low-quality pic of Bill Bachman playing on quads. Click it. Then at the next page click it again. There you go. The beginning to Opie's Opus. There is also some of the stuff towards the end on Vic Firth's website. If you guys need any help finding some cool stuff, or anything with playing, I'll be happy to help. Thanks.
