Snare because that was what I originally wanted to play

Bass in case my trad grip stinks (which it does)

Cymbals if I don't make the bassline
...then gong and concert bass if I don't make those! haha

That's a tough choice for me. I wanted to play snare when I first got into drumline, but my traditional wasn't very good then and isn't now either. Realistically, I'd probably play bass and that'd be just fine with me. But sometimes I wish that I could have the experience of being one of the glory boys, even if just once...

Bass, 'cuz our Bassline is sick, and I would love to experience what goes on in the mind of a Bass Drummer while playing 32nd six-tuplets double paradiddled.

I would have to say snare because i practice both techniques of playing. I was never on bass so i don't know how it feels to play bass.

But how would you feel to get a bassline to actually get double strokes clean!

I would do bass. It takes that extra littel bit of brain power to subdivide and do all that jazz. Then when you get to drumcorps they give you rolls and snares notes anyhow. So i would chose bass.

Snare. I even asked my instructor if I could make the switch, but as I expected, I was declined. Mainly because next year I'll be the only experienced tenor player left, whereas we now have plenty of experienced snares.

Maybe I'd try my hands at front ensemble, too.

Consider yourself lucky, I would gladly be in your position. I made the mistake of tell my director that I could play snare if he wanted me to but i prefer staying on tenors. I prefer tenors over anything else, don't know why but I think it's because I'm able to do more technical things, such as cossovers, playing multiple drums, and having fast hands. I switched to snare this year and i took me forever to finally go to the snare sticks out position. I always ended up going to the Tenors because it was natural for me.

I would play bass drum. There's something about different pitched drums. Plus, i didn't make the tenor line at drum corps so they asked me to consider the bass line.

Trumpet!? Trumpet!? They don't get the love. You must never have hung around the mellophone lines in DCI

Sweet runs, beautiful harmonies, the best parts in the ballad, the hardest drill, and some of the sexier ladies . . . why wouldn't you want to be a mellophone?

I would definitely be playing snare. That is what i played before i picked up the tenors. I have always liked both snare and tenors pretty evenly but i get tired of just the one sound made by snare. its all about variety for me.
