I'm fairly new to the line this year because i played sax. I was wondering for the people who have marched both, which is eaiser/more fun to do Crab Step, or Flanking/Sliding?

Crabbing is one of the most fun things to do period.

It looks a lot cooler than flanking/sliding too.

i love crabbing because not only does it look cooler and more fluid, but because...it is totally awesome. Thats all everyone else in the band wants to learn how to do...besides holding the stick traditionally (but thats a totally different thread)

Crabbing all the way. That's what sets the drums apart from the band.

Crabbing has always looked cool, and has always been fun to march. therefore, i'd say crabbing.

flanking is generally only used for specific visual effects...otherwise...the drums are meant to project one way...its physics...thats why the crab step was invented.

If that is the reason crabbing was invented....why don't directional brass players crab step all of the timeas well. You must have learned different physics then I.

Thats why it's more of a "slide" for winds. They're not restrained by a carrying device, so they can direct their torso while playing. Do I have to explain the reasoning behind that one?
