During BOA in my junior year, we were at the very end of our show. Basically, all our drums rose up and on the down beat, we would all come down at the same time. Well, one of our female tenor players came down a little too hard, causing her carrier to break in half. The funny part is that since the lights were beaming down on us so bright, it made her tenors show falling VERY WELL on video.

My freshman year, it was the middle of the marching season, and it was the slow part of our closer, and the snares and tenors pull their drums up, well, for some odd reason, when I pulled mine up, the drum came off the carrier.....and we were only 7 counts from where we come in, I was rushin as fast as I can to put it on before we turned around. Gah, that was so embarassing......'Least my friend from the other band didn't make a comment about it....It sucked big time...

I had my snare fall off during band camp last year. In one part of the show we flipped our drums up. When I did, it came off the hooks, so, when I flipped them down it hit me in the shins and fell to the ground. It hurt.

Great. Now I'm nervous. My Yamaha's Carrier bar (Where you mount the tenors onto the carrier) is bent and warped after years of letting the drums fall when you bring them down from their resting position.

No, I had a huge brain lapse, forgot my solo, and had to leave the stage for the rest of the show.

Luckily, it was two nights in a row, so I played the crap out of it the next night.

Lol. It's not the carrier itself, it's the Tenors.

And yeah, our stuff is getting kind'a worn out. It'd be nice to get a brand spankin' new set of Tenors. Our stuff is average in quality, with the exception of the Tenors. They're doing a little worse. (And the 2nd Bass drum, too.)

I've had that happen...a lot. I marched tenors in college, and got stuck with the worst carrier. My tenors fell at every show and rehearsal. I'd just march the drill.

I've just started tenors this year, so no mishaps yet. However, during a football game in the past (playing bass), one of the hooks on my carrier broke clean off, so I had to hold my drum up with one hand, and play with the other. I get the feeling that something will happen this year, though, because the other 2 tenors have nice vest carriers, while I'm stuck with an old T-bar.

Not a tenor but pretty funny. One time when we were marching in the school around for an indoor school parade because our football team that sucks really bad made it to state for the first time since 1989. Our first bass drum players bass drum came off the hook somehow and 4th bass behind it was just using his foot to roll it to first bass and he got it some how still playing on it with one hand and putting it back on.

I am just waiting for our tenors bars to snap. They are 15 years old and they don't even match the drums so they are already bent just to fit the drums. We use Pearl backbars with Yamaha drums. They are going to break...watch. But back to the topic, I have never had a mishap like that happen. It will happen though...

i hope i won't ever have this problem with my tenors, i probably won't have to worry about it that much since our tenors are pretty new. but, last year (when i played bass) at FBA, i almost busted my butt by tripping over an orange cone, but thankfully, i didn't fall to the ground.

Why, did you piss in your pants?

During one of our shows last year, we did a wave where you held onto the j bars and lifted the tenors. One of the guys got too excited and it came off. He missed the rest of the song because he couldn't get it back on. Poor kid - he was the only thing that kept our line from being totally awesome last year.

We flipped our tenors into th rest position during the opener and I brought mine up to energetically and only one side came off. That wouldn't have been so bad but the J bar was loose so it was out of line. I did fix them without anyone noticing anything but I came out bleeding horribly. I had pinched my finger somehow in the process of fixing myself. That wasn't a good night.

I fell during rehearsal once, and the tenors just popped right off the harness. I tripped over one of the guardy's flags.

During a parade in 8th grade, I had to play crash cymbals, and the strap just came completly untied.

Yes that has happened to me. Last month (May) my town had a big parade and it was big enough for the drum line to be invited to march in. So a couple of days before we were practicing the 5 cadences we were going to march and during 3rd one my bran new Yamaha sixtuplets came off its j-Bars and hit the ground and forced the two spocks off its track, but we got it fixed in time for the parade.

It's never happened to me, but if you watch the 1992 DCI DVD/Video, druing the Blue Knights show, just after the end of the percussion feature, one of the tenor players drums either slip off the carrier, or the hooks come loose.. The poor guy has to hold on to his drums, got out of step, and missed a chart. I felt really bad for him. but I guess they got him all fixed up, because he finished the show.

the worst thing that ever happened to me was marching into the 2004 DII Nat'l football championships i had my only spock just completely dismount and roll down a hill. that sucks. fortunately someone picked it up and returned it so i didn't have to break rank. moral of the story: always tighten all your bolts!

I've never had mine fall off before, but one time during a parade we got to a spot where we were performing in front of the main crowd under lights and the second after I counted off I dropped my right stick. This would normally be okay because I carry extra sticks, but I had already dropeed a pair and the band parents that were following us had them. I performed that bit the best I could with one stick, and got the rest back when we began marching again. It was horrible. So the moral of the story is don't have sweaty hands.

I can remember back in high school my sophmore year one of our tenor players had his tenors on an actual stand and the bar just broke off from the tenors and just smacked the floor horribly (maybe that's why we didn't have stands...) There have been times too when we would do waves w/ the tenors and they'd come out of the J hooks and we'd be frantically trying to put the hook back in while marching. Funny sight though to see one of our tenor players' shoe come apart (literally) and trip on the pieces, making him stumble for a good amount of time until finally falling on the ground face-up (he saved the tenors thankfully). So yeah, that's not good...

Ive never had mine fall off, but I was playing tenors once at our feature parade at Disney World last February and my quads broke in half during the parade (near the end thank goodness :\ ). We had just gotten new carriers which came with new attachments to hold the drums together/on the carrier, and whoever put mine together must have done a sloppy job on the one that held the number 1 and 2 drums together. I was just marching and suddenly felt a pop and looked down to see the 2 and 4 drums falling foreword. I had to grab them and hold them together for the remainder of the parade. It was incredibly hard to play with one arm draped over the center of the drums lol.

Me and my line were coming back from band practice and to get back to the school we have to go down a flight of cement stairs and cross the street. I was walking next to my friend when her snare tote broke in half. We just watched as the snare drum bounced all the way down the stairs and rolled across the street. We didnt know what to do but stand there and stare. it was awful!!!

One of our Snares yesterday at Rehearsal, was picking his drum up from the ground to put it on. Well, halfway up, the Snare came off the tote and smacked into the ground. He had to ran two laps around the Driver's Ed course.

Interesting story: I had a pass through of the trumpet section when coming up to do a tenor feature. Unfortunately, the trumpets forgot to leave a large enough hole for me,and it wasn't the first time. So I plowed right into the backs of two trumpet players to teach them a lesson, and they knocked my quads off of my shoulders by accident. Luckily, I caught the carrier and put it back on my shoulders without the drums hitting the ground. I even nailed my feature!

Well, it just so happened that the J-bars weren't all the way into their slots. So I dropped the carrier onto my shoulders, The carrier stopped falling when it reached my shoulders. Unfortunately, the drums didn't. They fell forward and landed on the ground, right on drum 1.
Now drum 1 has a crack in it's shell (but nobody has noticed because the wrap still looks flawless).
Worse yet, I'm only a wannabe drummer (even though I'm the best drummer at my school), so the incident doesn't exactly advance our cause.
My BD still doesn't know about this, so keep quiet...

Never have had anything like THAT happen, but I've seen a few bass drums go rolling...not during a show, though, only during practices. Thank goodness. Incidentally, I have seen someone fall over their drum, if that's an equivalent...our other tenor player had his drums off while practicing sets, backed into them and flipped over. Bent the shoulder bar on the harness 90º.

We've had a major tenor fall during show. It happened when we were at pigskin, that contest that we all worked for at the end of the season. We got on the field and started the show. At the drum break (at the end of the first part of the show) one of our tenors broke. The J-bar was broken and was leaning to one side. He carried the whole thing till we finished our show and marched off the field. After that, we still got a one and we were very happy that he didn't drop them.

Some of these stories sound like they must have sucked when they happened. Fortunately enough, I've never had my tenors fall off or anything; however, at PAS last year, there was this school that had a tenor feature where they put their drums on stands and start doing a weaving thing (kind of cliche, but oh well) it was good until the last few bars, and one of the guys' foot caught the stand. Three of the four tenors fell. It was bad.

During our pre-competition show, I think it's BOA, the support bar that attaches the tenors to the carrier broke during the first minute of our 7 1/2 minute show. I had to carry them for the rest of the show and marching off the track. It wasn't fun, but I stayed in step and formation

My senior year, one of the tenor player's J bars snapped in the middle of an 8 mile parade in New Orleans.
Sucked for him.

I also stepped in a pot hole that same parade and twisted my ankle. Sucked for me.
