I've been on drumline for a few years now, and each year the drumline has a break i the show. i was wondering what people liked to do for feature, such as really complicated drill or just something like a park and blow. also how long (if any) would you do individual section solos for.

since I've been in band, most of our drum features have been park 'n blow. the hornline does some crazy drill while drumline is pretty much still. as far as music goes, it's usually a very percussive piece, with band highlights. last year we did 1,2,3 by Gloria Estefan and that was bout a min and a half to 2 mins and we had 4 measures of solos for each section.

we did a break during bohemian rhapsody, last year our theme was Queen. it was really good. we had to bounce while we played!! haha, it was a lot of fun... then the year before that, we did this American theme, and we turned our drums over( the bass drums) the snares and quads leaned back, and played like that. it was a really cool visual. i like doing drum breaks. because at that point and time, the attention is all on US!

My line had a pretty cool break this year. We were going to have some cool drill but that never materialized. There was a 5 bar bass solo in it and a 12 bar tenor solo.

In our drum break this year we swayed from side to side. Meanwhile, the rest of the band was doing a visual.

We typically have a minute to two minute long percussion/pit feature in addition to little to longer breaks in the songs.

During these features, the band has some crazy drill - but the drummers have it even harder. The BD knows we'll do some crazy stuff so he lets us come up with our own drill.

For example, we took 4 of us in a diamond and we ran around the diamond while playing. The best visual was when we came up and played a quick riff and then swung outta hte way fofr the bass line - of course, in doing this move, one tenor swung in and the other out, so we would have our drums go over each other. I kid you not, there was about 4 inches of space (if that) - and only one quad collision all year.

This passed school yeah is the only year we played a real drum feature. We played Karnevil, the intro to the '85 BD show I think. But we marched it unlike Devs.

Last year, we had a drum break where the whole line came forward, then the snares crabbed across the front. Meanwhile, the band was scattering into the backfield, which was lined with trees, so it was like they were going into Sherwood Forest. (Robin Hood show) It was pretty cool.

We have a drum break every year, but this one was the most defined. We did A Pirates of the Caribbean Show (Which was really original in Illinois) and during "To the Pirates Cave" Band made a rectangle that was about 50 yards long and left a huge space for the battery. They were blocked so when it was each part of the batteries' turn they rest would march out the way so they were in front. Our Snares did a split roll and stuff. Tenors did the crossevers and Bass did the 6 up and down the line. Then the pit played a solo with some five-lets and then the last 4 bars of the drum feature was a huge groove with the whole drumline.

During my senior year at BOA, one of our tenor drums literally broke, if that's how the topic stands .
