We really don't have a real percussion feature where we line up on the side line, play something totally sick, and scare the crap out of the other drumline. No, we have to do a feature to a song, like this year is Great Balls Of Fire. Makes me sick.

I was watching some old video last night of high school drum breaks and the thing noticed was that during drum breaks, the drummers focus so much on nailing everything that they are playing and don't add too many visuals.
When I watched North Texas' drum break, they focused hard on the licks, but then they added some hand, leg, or stick movement, etc., in rest measures.
So focus on keeping it clean and technically difficult, but also make it appealing to the non-drummer who might not notice the tick coming from snare 4.

Our break last year was... The band would get into this giant dimond and we would be marching around off to the side they rolled tis big rack system with our drumset on top with a cover over
we would marching around the rack system , and then we would turn around and everything would get quite.. then we turn around, the cover on the set gets ripped off and the drum set player kicks it all off, boom...booom CHAAT CHAAT we would alll break down and play our... break, then drum set solo, snare sole, and tenor solo
while the were doing the break the band took our umbreallas out of these pouchs and did a whole bunch of things with em(dance, did and giant wave..etc.)
It was pretty cool

Every year we have a drum break. Sometimes its on the move and sometimes its park and blow. I know this years drum break is long and much better than last years 4 measures of pure crap. This year our break is about 40 seconds long and the Snares get the most out of it.

My line has done both the stop and break it down, and the march crazy drill while playing some cool intricate parts, and I prefer the marching crazy drill. We have always kept our section breaks to 1 measure each in the past.
This year we are playing "Big Noise" as our percussion feature, and we are having 2 drum breaks. For the first one, my assistant section leader (he plays tenors) and I are going to have solos in the form of a drum battle. For the second one, we are setting up a bass drum rack so that everyone in the battery (excluding cymbals) will be playing a bass. We will have 7-9 basses in all.
