that sounds neat. we wore white last year with white pants, but we will probably wear black this year since were getting black pants.

White marching shoes are great if your marching program is spot on. The white shoes are a sharp contrast to the green fields which we march on. The white shoes are very unforgiving if your visual program is not up to snuff. Whereas black shoes blend more with the green field and are more forgiving. So the choice of footwear should reflect how well your group is marching and not so much on what colour is my uniform ect...

I've had to wear both. Um, I guess prefer black. No worries about mud and whatnot.

White sticks out better, if you have a great marching band..go with white shoes, if your marching band is so so at marching with hi toes, then go with black because it's not as noticable as the white shoes.

oh yea, red is the most revealing color on a field, judges can see every wrong move made because the red is such a contrast

I like the black marching shoes a lot better than the white because if you don't have the best marching style, (although it should be the same), it really isn't as noticable rather than wearing white marching shoes which is.
Our shoes are rolled at the heal so that it is a lot more comfortable while marching and it isn't bad for your feet.

cleaning white shoes is a pain, black shoes are wasier to wipe off, plus they are lifesavers for the rookies that can't march. Since they blend in, but they match our uniforms.

Our schools wears black shoes. Our uniforms have dark navy blue pants. Not much of a contrast, eh? Well too bad we wear nice shiny white spats. Oh my goodness, it looked so bad during the first week and band camp. To add on to this, out school is high step (except for drumline) so people who are out of step really stick out. Thankfully, our BD would personally yell at you after practice if you were out of step, so by our 2nd or 3rd game everyone was in step.

We use black, which was lucky two years ago in San Diego for concert percussion when one of our players lost half his uniform (the bottom half; we share the pants and shoes for marching and concert - I'm not sure if everyone does this) and had to buy nice shoes to wear in place of them. I think it would've been a little harder to find white shoes.
I know what 628 means about white shoes exposing mistakes; a school that is the home of a rival football team of ours always brings their band to the last game. They wear white shoes, and it was painfully obvious if anyone ever got out of step (which, luckily, was not often).

My school does black. I myself prefer black because it's harder to notice mistakes and looks clean from the stands. But when we get in formation for Uniform check, we get a grade for if our shoes are polished, and our uniforms are hithced and stiched right. You can get points taken off at contest for cruddy uniforms .

Our band wears black probabaly because it matches with our uniform better and because when we march at football games they don't show as much dirt and white would.

I prefer white because if you sound good, then you gotta look good. However, my high school band wasn't like that so we had black.

Our high school band used black. The dum majors wore white and they looked tough to clean when they got dirty. I think black look better because they shine up nicely.

Why would you use one color for practice and another color for shows? You should use the same color for both so you practice the way you perform.

well we have to wear black next year but we wore white this year. our uniforms are white, brown and gold but our band director decided black shoes show if we're out of step less. personally i liked the white a whole lot better. it went with our uniform and the black doesn't even match our brown pants.

I have to agree here...to a certain extent. I do believe that white shoes make your visual program look worse if your program is not great. However, I do not think that it makes the program look better if they are already great marchers. It the visual program is already great, then it will look great whether they are wearing white shoes or black shoes. I do understand the point of the contrasting in colors, but I just don't think that it would make much of a difference in the units' "greatness".
