My line just got in our new (to us) 4.6 octave Adams marimba. I love it. I skipped my lunch period, my Astronomy class, and stayed after school to go in and play it today. My instructor & I were playing together trying to think of ideas for our indoor show. It was so nice. It was used by Magic of Orlando before us, and it's looks really good for being used. ::dance:: We're the only line on our coast that has one. It makes me feel good when I play it.

Has that ever happened to you? Pretty much, getting new equipment or a new instrument and feeling awesome when you play on it?

Heck yea! We got an ice bell for our xylo and a trash splash for our marimba and I played on both. They sound so awesome and I was like "I'm the girl!" When my band director told me not to clean up the splash (we clean our cymbals before a few games, all contests) I did anyway because I didn't want to play on a dirty cymbal and I got in major trouble

We got new timpani this year, and I love playing on them! But they're indoor so we have to go back to our crappy, paint-chipping timp in a few weeks

we have 2 sets of vibes and concert bass and 1 nice and 2 semi crappy xylos, one set (the nice ones) for concert, and the other (the semi crappy ones) are for marching band. this year when we pulled out the nice stuff for concert season, i was super happy. now, in 7 days (can't wait!) we start drumline and the nice stuff goes away and the junk stuff comes out.

We don't have concert set of anything, really. Just snare and bass drum. But we use the bass during our marching and indoors seasons in the pit anyways. We use all of our stuff for what we play. We have too many people not to. Sometimes we just have to make up parts to put someone on something so they can play.

There are times when a certain amount of tarnish on a cymbal will change the timbre slightly and it is possible that the director wanted the sound the tarnished cymbal was making.

I was told numerous times that we were the only one. I'm going off what I was told.

Are you sure that last comment was to me? I wasn't the one that said something about the cymbal cleaning.

Perhaps he means on your coast of florida? Or in your area?
