This post is basically just for you to share your opinion on which brands/companies (Yamaha, Dynasty, Pearl, etc.) make the best of each type of drum (snare, tenor, bass). I'm only going to use the big 3, but you're welcome to post other companies like Premier and Ludwig if you see fit. And by the way, I only have first-hand experience with Yamaha, so the rest is just based on what I've heard in videos, etc.

Snare:
1. Yamaha
2. Dynasty and Pearl (two different sound that I like equally)

Tenor:
1. Dynasty
2. Pearl
3. Yamaha

Bass:
1. Pearl
2. Yamaha
3. Dynasty

Feel free to add other things like pit instruments, cymbals, etc. if you want.

Man i think Premier and Ludwig get a bum rap sometimes. I like both of those brand's snares but anyway.

Tenors-Dynasty
Snare-Pearl
Bass- Pearl

That would be my top pick. But i do like the Premier snares. The "pow" sound you get is pretty cool

tenor-Dynasty. theyre the only ones who offer an 8 inch spock drum that you can actually tell the difference in tones. plus the wide variety in color finishes can really make a drumline look rockin.

snare-Dynasty. the double snare effect on their drums just sound great. and once again, the color range is good.

bass-well, im not so sure on bass drums. im not really a bass player. and i dont know much about bass playing and tuning and all that good stuff, so i really have got nothing for ya there.

and a side note- zildjian makes great cymbals.

As a bass drummer, having played both on Pearl and Yamaha drums, I feel that the quality of Pearl drums are much higher. The sound quality is a big difference too.

Oh and by the way, Zildjan rules the cymbal world, marching and concert

Tenor- Dynasty (because of the 8" spock) and Yamaha because their really good quality
Bass- Yamaha
Cymbals- I never play anything but Zildjian

I don't really care much for the Dynasty snares, but that's just me. I've played on Pearl, Yamaha, and Dynasty drums, and I just think that Yamaha makes a better drum. Dynasty makes good tenors though, that's obvious.

You should hope not, considering that they're the same drum and that would seriously question the quality and consistency of Yamaha products.

If you meant that you can tell the difference between the 6 and the 8, then that's understandable and one would hope so because they're supposed to sound different.

IMO, Pearl gets the vote across the board. There's nothing unnecessary on their products (except the snare covers) and all their drums have a full, yet focused sound.

Yamaha and Dynasty make excellent products, but Pearl is it for me.

Dynasty is not the only company that makes 8 inch spock drums.

Personally, I Think Yamaha has some of the best drumline equipment out there. Our school got some new Yamaha stuff this year. The Sfz snares are freakin awasome, the quints we got that i play look, feel and sound great to, the basses are perfect for tonal too.

Snare - Dynasty; I'm partial to the Shorty drums with top snare units. Nice articulation, yet still warm in a sense.

Tenors - Yamaha; Again, nice articulation. They sound a lot different than other brands and seem to have a little more emphasis on higher pithces, granted the birch shells.

Basses - Pearl; Deep, deep, deep, and articulate sounding when tuned in manners I like. The extra two inches added to the depths of the thirty and thirty-two inch drums really seems to make a difference.

Cymbals: The versatility and catalogue drive me to pick Sabian. They material is slightly thicker than Zildjians and is less likely to invert during normal playing, and the quality is unmatched.

Pit: Adams; their mallet instruments are some of the toughest I've seen, and sound warm and lush at the same time.

Oh wait! Did someone say Premier free floaters. No? OK.

Here goes...

Snares-The Pearl FFX's just sound great, look great, and are of great quality.

Tenors-I have some Pearl quints, and the hardware is weird, so I'm going to have to go with Dynasty because they were the first with 6-8 spock setup and the cradle just puts the icing on the cake.

Basses-Pearl because they are quality made and sound great in any situation.

Cymbals-The Zildjian ZXT's. They are light. Sound awesome, really bright, and look cool right out of the bag.

I like my Yamaha Snare pitched high... Frankly, I don't like the 'normal' sound of marching snares. (don't hit me!)

But for basses, I played on some dynesty or whatever drums, and they were the best I've heard yet. :P

Yamaha makes a great set of quads. I'm probably biased, because that's what our school uses, but yeah. :P I didn't like them to start with, but now I think every other tenor sets I hear suck. Ours sound weird, almost like metal bowls (ring), but I like them all the same.

Snares:
1) Pearl
2) Yamaha
3) Dynasty

Any of 'em can be made to sound good if tuned correctly. I personally give Pearl a slight edge over Yamaha because of the extra snare guts (I like a slightly wetter sound) and the rim-fastened guard instead of Yamaha's 'feet'.

Dynasty's in a not-too-distant third because I've seen problems with the strainer assembly bending. (Not as bad as Premier's, though!)

Tenors:
1) Dynasty
2) Yamaha
3) Pearl

This is all about Dynasty's mounting frame. It's a well-designed system, keeping all of the drums -- including the spock -- perfectly aligned. Being able to adjust the drums' distance from the body is also a nice touch.

I like Yamaha tenors, too. One nice detail is the rims that curve inward instead of typical triple-flanged hoops. They really help keep the drums' bearing edges from getting chewed up by stray sticks.

There's nothing wrong with Pearl tenors, but I'm just not a huge fan of their super-deep shells. I 'grew up' on early '90s Yamahas, which just have a different sound. The closest tenor sound today to those Yamahas is probably Dynasty, which might be part of the reason I like 'em.

Basses:
1) Pearl
2) Yamaha
3) Dynasty

This one's really close. I like 'em all, assuming they're tuned well.
