I've been going through the many Percussion websites looking for cheap Drum Pads, because I'm a little short on money. Does anyone know where to find a good, durable, good sized Drum Pad? A Snare one, obviously, because the Heavy Hitter Quadropad's are like a hundred and twenty dollars, and I don't have the money for that . . .

I would try and find a Real Feel pad. they run around 40 to 50 bucks, 30 if you can find a good discount. they are very good and they are double sided, one soft rubber side, and one hard rubber side. just about everyone on our drumline has one, and you can get different sizes

Check out the review section also.. The Vic Firth double sided pad is good, and runs about half the price of a Reel Feel. But the best thing you could probably do is go to a local music store, and see if they have some pads you can try out, then just go with whatever you think is the best for you.

YOu could go to a plumbing supply house or a hardware store and ask for rubber gasket material. It has the same feel as the black side of a Real Feel with a little more response. YOu can get a whole roll of it for about $10 combine that with a bit of plywood and bango you got a MacGyver drum pad.
Also I should mention you will obviously need rubber cement as regular glues will not work well if at all.

But could you make a practice pad out of a piece of gum, a rubberband, and a paperclip?

I think not Only MacGuyver...

Yeah putty works, Remo makes a putty pad now for about 7 bucks...It's not worth 7 to me, but silly putty is a good little pad as long as you put it on a table or something hard like that.

Yea, i like the dble sided vic firth. I got mine for like 20 something bucks off of some website. It has a soft, quiet side that "builds chops" (it doesnt really work my arms out any) and then the other side and i dont care to much for the way it rebounds, but really clear strokes.

Either buy a Heavy Hitter, or you could just glue a mousepad onto a 2x4. It works well. You could just put a mousepad on a table though too.

I have both real feel and a remo pad I use the real feel but on occasions I will use the remo. The thing with the remo it is like a 6 in. so i would really start considering the real feel. there pretty cheap. I got one for $22 at interstate percussion.

Heaver Hitter Pad would be the best idea, or just vic firth pad in general, none of them cost more than $30 and they are pretty good.
If you want a traveling pad, buy the REMO PUTTY PAD.
