Hey all, I'm brand-spanking-new here on Drumlines.org, and I wanted to say 'What's up?' to my fellow drummers. Anyway, the current band I'm with is getting a new instructor, fresh from college and he had been part of the band before going off to college. Though, since he's fresh I'm not sure if he's going to keep the old marching style of: tightened butt-cheeks, stiff upper body posture, rolling the feet from heel to toe as your legs move like you're normally walking. If that doesn't make any sense, let me know so I can try to simplify if needed. I know that there are many different techniques to marching. Though, I'd like to ask you all what your opinion is on a/the "better marching technique" that I may bring up to him or play with that notion. Appreciate it!

By your decription of the "old" style of marching , I think you're referring to corps style marching. Marching styles are more of subjective rather than objective. There isn't really a better style, it just depends on what you like best. Another style of marching is called show style. This involves a more "laid-back" kind of approach, meant to blow the audience away with entertainment, rather than with flawless technique and crispness associated with corps style.
