OK, so I was bored and wanted to post something on here and get some more critique on my writing.
This is a drum break I wrote last spring when my director was trying to pick a drum break for us to play. It's written mostly in 5/4, with some changes to 3/4 and 2/4 for the solos and some 4/4 sections. No reason, really, I just felt that there needed to be some different kind of flow going on.
There are also supposed to be some tempo changes at the beginning(and remember this is in 5/4):
Start at 120 bpm
At measure 7, start accelerating and over 4 bars, get up to 140 or 145 bpm.
Measures 5-10 repeat; the second time through is when you should hit 140 or 145. Tempo should stay steady for the second repeat and the rest of the song.
A lot of you will recognize the influence of Mars from Holst's Planet suite. Yes, the background beat does contain that driving rhythm, but I specifically detailed the keyboard and chime parts to offset that...so this IS NOT a ripoff of Mars.
Lastly, the weird sound at about 1:01 into the piece is meant to be on the side of the snare drum/optional brake drum.
Hope you enjoy it, and I would really appreciate some feedback on this. I might try to post some sheet music, but I doubt it because the page count will probably be in the double-digits due to the instrumentation.
