If you school has the money go with the zildjian stadiums there are advantages to using these.

1) they were designed to get the most projection out of the least amount of metal
2) the top side of the cymbal is a brilliant finish, so it will look good, but the bottom is traditional, to maintan a darker sound.
3) the tonal grooves on the bottom of the cymbal are deeper than any other cymbal on the market, so some of the more intricate sounds (sucks zings ect) can project better.
4) the 18" dont sound chingy AT ALL, which has been a problem ive heard with other cymbals, including the z-macs.
5)the color pallate of the stadiums isgreater than that of any other field model: 3 sizes 16" 18" 20" , two thinknesses medium and medium heavy.
6) Zildjian has one heck of a great customer service department if you have problems.

Now I belive pads are a must on your cymbal. for one it protects you hand from getting pinched between the cymbal and the strap. then everything cym city said after "as for pads..."
