Okay, I need help. This is the first official freshman story of my senior year. Yesterday, somehow, a freshman got Paiste cymbal cleaner on his face. I'm not sure why they the cymbals had paiste cymbal cleaner. I'm not sure how this happened. I don't even know who these kids are anymore. But anyways, I got a call from his mom today asking what got in her son's face. Apparently he is really swollen and they had to call poison control. The problem is, he didn't know that the stuff was cymbal cleaner, so the doctors has no clue what to do.
My question is, does anyone know what could be causing this? I know allergic reaction is most likely, but the cleaner doesn't have the ingredients on the bottle. Any help is appreciated.

WOW! hmmm...yeah definatly an allergy, best bet is maybe contact the manufacturer (paiste) or maybe the company who bottles it (if not paiste). I'm sure there is a number on the thing some place. Maybe it would help if you gave her a bottle of the stuff and she could take it where she needs to so "they" can find out exactly what it is.

You might also want to see the store that sold it to you. It sounds like an allergy. Since there is no ingredients label well I would just call the company. You may also want to find what the kid is allergic to if the parents or the doctor knows. Sometimes it might have been something else he touched and did not notice.

how exactly did it wind up on his face? - how can you not realize what it was... - cymbal cleaner!??! i cant imagine his thought process at the time: hmm, thick, definitely smelly, facial cleanser? -

if its like the zildjian cleaner it contains amonia and possibly kerosen. It could contin some other highly abrasive cleaning chemical.

There should be an MSDS form on the net someplace since they're requiered by law to have one. By the way, for those of you that don't know, MSDS, Material Safety Data Sheet.

yes, but that couldve been included ON the packaging in which the product was bought.

uuummmm... why exactly did he put it on his face??? maybe he shouldve thought about what he was putting on his face before he did it. but yeah shouldnt any sort of harsh chemical like that have ingredients and warnings and stuff like that on it?

Kev, and everybody else, I looked for a MSDS sheet but could not find one. They usually don't come with the product since it's usually a bunch of information people don't care to know. But people under the harsh rule of OSHA here in Ohio have to have them for certain things so it means you either have to get them online somehow or call the company and have them send or fax one to you.

Ha I can picture this:

*picks up cymbal cleaner* Oh! Face wash!!! *squirts on hands and rubs on face* This should be good for my pores!
