I often find time is Spanish class to work on some stuff. Right now I'm working on brushing up my rudiments and making them faster by just using my wrists. Also, I'll practice some exercises at really fast tempos to speed up my fingers for single strokes.

Yeah, you may want to watch that. I used to tap all the time. It tends to drive people nuts.

man.. I tap all the time and I can't help it... I'll just be sitting there and start to tap.... usually parts of the show or our cadence... my friends get really annoyed.

I think I may know why most of us percussion players tap so much!

It's muscle memory, I am thinking. If you think about it carefully, most of the time when drummers unconsciously start "tapping," as they say, the "tapper" is tapping a rhythm they know quite well: and what drumming comes down to is muslce memory, that's why we can play things from memory without the slightest thought after memorization, due to muscle memory! I've had the same problem.

(that sounded redundant, but there you go)

I was going to make a new thread about this, but that would be lame. I went about 3 days practicing with only my hands. Quality results, I tell you, at least for my matched grip that I am using more now.

Check it out guys,

I recently purchased a handheld GYRO @ SCPA SoCal Championships; this thing will KILL your chops (in a good way, of course). It's made by DYNAFLEX and I have the Pro model. Check out their site, NOW!
Its encasement is blue with am enclosed neon-yellow center ball. CHECK IT OUT. I promise this thing is the BEST for chops, no joke.
