I am buying a set of Pearl championship series quads 8-10-12-13. I want to buy a 6 inch drum to make it into quints. Any suggestions on where to buy it, what kind, and how to attach it? Also, has anybody ever seen a corps or battery that had tenors with the splach/hi-hat attachment? I know they can be used on it, but ive never actually seen. Let me know!

i can help ya here. you can buy any shot drum to add on. www.wwbw.com has them as does www.brookmays.com and various other places. you could also make one out of pvc pipe.
to attach it, it should jsut bolt right ot the back bar.If there arent holes to mount it with you may just have to drill a couple. not to hard to do. jsut line them up mark and drill. if you backbar isnt flat then leme know and i can help ya figure out how to mount it. as for splash cymbals i now the caives used them the other year but they werent mounted on the drums. you can buy the LP claw and ount a splash or a cowbell on the tenors. thats what most corps use when they need to mount something.

thanks for the help. the set i have now has a semi-flat, more rectangular bar, but it's the school's set, not mine. I ordered Pearl competetor series (i think) quads which should come in a few weeks, so i'll let you know then. how would you make a shot drum out of pvc that wouldnt break?

As for building a 6" gock - after you buy hoops lugs and a head, round the bering edge, drill holes, etc... you may want to be sure buy enough pipe for two or three drums - you may screw the first one up - plus I've seen a lot of these crack over time as well. If you need the parts to build one, I can hook you up - just send me an e-mail (I'm in percussion retail, but I'll be curtious and won't use this space as free plug)
