Ours had like 6, then 2 electronics. According to Jenna, the electronics aren't considered to be part of the pit, but I think that's just because she doesn't like them.

Correction my dear Chet. There were 5 acoustic aka percussion members in our pit. And 2 electronics. And the electronics are considered part of the pit. But like before E they were their own section of the pit. So when we did sectionals all perc. pit rehearsed. And the electronics rehearsed another place! Get it? And altogether there were 7 pit members! And who knows how many in indoor. I know way too many and i didn't feel like counting!

dhs snare- I know how you feel... At my school we've been traped in a vicious cycle. No one will be in the pit because we don't have much pit equipment. No pit equipment will be bought because no one wants to be in the pit. We have xylos, vibes, and glocks, orchestral bells and tubular bells as well if those count, but that's it. We had 2 players last year... We're loosing them both so I'm gonna be back in the pit next year. Perhaps next year I will be a one man pit.

my pit is HUGE. it usually starts off with about 5 people. we're really amazing at the beginning of the year. once about 2 weeks pass and people transfer schools, my director decides to add the new people to pit until next year. so by the end of the season we have about 12 people who can't play at all. it really makes us 5 talented people look bad.

This can sometimes depend on what class you're going to be in. World lines tend to have bigger groups. I've heard that this is necessary in order to be competitive. I'm sure it also helps with balance issues with the battery so you're not always relying on amplification to be heard over the 9-member snare line. However, Project only has 5 mallets, 3 Aux boys, and 1 synth this year and we're PIW.

I'm sure a new line would not be starting out in World class.

WGI maintains that the minimum amount of members is 6. That is a very small ensemble if you're doing anything other than a Concert group. I would probably say a minimum you should aim for would be:

With a front ensemble - 2 snares, 1 tenor, 3 bass, 2 FE
Without a FE - 3 snares, 1 tenor, 4 bass

Actually, this is my winterline's first year and we started out strong in PIW class. We've already beat some big name groups like Black Knights and Momentum. It all depends on the talent you attract, the design of your show, and your staff.

This would be my fourth year in a High school Pit. We only have 4 people in ours. But... Technically its just me and our Timp Player. We have one girl with MS that cant move her wrists, and can barely move her arms, so, she cant do much percussion wise. And We have a Guard member turned Percussionist, so, shes not doing very well. Im Playing marimba, Vibes and Auxillary. The Girl With MS is on Auxillary, and the Guard Member is on Xylo. Its small, but, Im happy with it. That just means that there are more intricate and Complex Parts for me.

ours beats yours...we have 20!! we get a little crowded sometimes, I hope it is a little smaller next year. some of the people don't even play percussion, they are clarinets, flutes or strings that wanted to be in marching band, but couldn't.

Wow... Pits are NOTHING like that around here. The most ive seen around here is about 10 Tops... How many instructors do you have with that many people?!

Personally, I have 3 1/2 people in the pit. (drum major plays Vibes for a song), and we dont have an instructor, but, I would imagine that a 25 person pit would atleast have one instructor...

Also, with that kind of equiptment, how many band parents/Runners to you have? We might have 5 on a good day to help set up.

Well you can cover more instruments. We have 4 synth players 4 marimbas with 2 ppl on each. 3 Xylos. 2 vibes, 5 kitchen, 1 set player, 1 timpani player, 1 drummajor (switches from conducting to playing).

5 kitchen? What about the bathroom or outhouse?
