I am looking to buy a snare (I play on a pipe bands Pearl ffx) and the Dynasty stuff seems to be everywhere BD or instructors affiliated with them go. Great Drums or Great Marketing?

I've played on a Dynasty snare but that was about ten years ago when the drums blew big time. The snare throwoff was made of plastic for goodness sake! Anywho, I'm sure there are a lot of lines making the swtich to Dynasty for two reasons, 1) their cutting some great deals which directors always love, and 2) their product has been put through it's paces by some big lines like Blue Devils and Boston Crusaders and is holding up very well.

Haven't played one, but they sound really good. BD has had some great sounds from them over the past few years. Magic of Orlando had a nice drum sound too. Now BAC, their snare techs did something wrong this year, but it's better than those Premiers they use to have.

I really enjoyed the Dynasty drums. The drums themselves are solid. I did not have to replace anyparts all summer...also the powder coating did not chip. Great Job Dynasty!

I've played on them as well, the snares that is, and I love them. As they said before, they are very solid, we haven't had to replace anything either, then again it's all in how you take care of them.

I have played on Dynasty tenors (thats when I used to play tenors) but not a snare. The tenors though were awesome. Good quality. Nothing broke except number 5's head but thats not made by Dynasty. The Dynasty drums are the perfect drums. I recommend them.

I haved marched Dynasty drums and they are as awesome as you can imagine. I personaly own a set of BD gray and powder coat black hardware 6 pack. The drums are awesome. Plus a LIFTIME Warranty on ALL hardware. My only problem with the powder coating on the tenor rims os that it does seem to have a way of workin off with shots but that aside they are by far THE BEST drums money can buy.

My HS uses yamahas and I personally like Yamaha but at corp we had dynastys and man they were pretty sweet. The drums them selves are awesome but the carriers were a big pain for me. I plan on purchasing one for college.

I marched on a Dynasty drum with 6/3/5 line, and I'll tell you it was pretty sweet. From marching on a Pearl line to this Dynasty line of drums, it made me wish my high school shelled out the cash to cover new drums. Very nice drums indeed.

Our school uses them and we have not had to replace anything yet. We've had ours for two or three years now and they still look brand new but like Osiris said it's all in how you take care of them. Sound is great I'm not sure about just single snare drums but double snare drums have a nice crispy sound to them. If you have any questions just p.m. me. I'll be glad to answer as many of them as I can.

Ill put in some details. I think they have improved on looks for the most part, I dont really like the sound of Pearl that much I mean dont get me wrong Pearl is a great drum but I like the sound of Dynasty better. I'm not for sure on the weight though so I cant really tell you anything about that.

well the weight of the drums (as far as I know) seem a lot more heavier than others. I've marched Yamaha for this year and it is nothing like the Dynasty drums. as far as sound, as long as you have the right heads they sound really great. snares have a really crisp, clean sound, tenors have that awesome tenor sound thats indescibeable, and the basses flow into each other during runs. all for excellent prices too! i wish we could march Dynasty at school.

Are all Dynasty snare drums high tension drums? I plan on buying one and I of course want a kevlar head and if a drum isn't high tension then it will crack it all up.

What do you mean a wet sound. I have heard this expression many of times and never have got what it meant.

Think of it in this respect:

Wet sound = concert snare = a lot of snare response
Dry sound = drumming on a tabletop = little or no snare response.

There is a whole range in between.

Well... I haven't played them, but I want a DFXT really bad... and I'm probably going to purchase one around Spring Break or Summer time. Everyone is complimenting the sounds & durability, so I'll go ahead and leave it at "I agree 100% with what the people above have said."

But, I also adore the look of Dynasty drums. They are sleek. Especially the snares. Tenors & Basses can't get much of a different look, except they do have nice-looking lug casings. But the snares, oh jeez... I love how the tension rods don't run all the way up the drum. This allows for more of the "shell" to show. And the shell is probably the prettiest part of any drum, especially if it's a shell you've customized. They also look even sleeker with hardware of your choice, whether black or silver powder coated, or chrome (which is a personal favorite of mine on Dynasty drums).

The Dynasty drums are durable, can be tuned however you wish, and look sleek & contemporary (not to mention, outstanding). Heck, even a plane ol' white Dynasty drum with silver powder coating looks magnificent (to me anyways). There's just something different about Dynasty. I guess it's got a lot to do with the lugs, most other brands of drums have length-running lugs which provides a different look.

I love Dynasty, and I don't even have one. (But will soon, hopefully). Sorry for rambling, it's the late hours of the evening for me.

I would say that they keep either their bottom snares loose or if they have top snare heading system then they might keep them loose as well.

Some thoughts:

First, The harness that Dynasty provides with their drums leaves a bit to be desired, but the company seems to be making big strides in all that they do, so with time I'm sure they'll put out something better. (If you look at bd over the last few years, they appear to still be using the Yamaha vest carriers)

Also, There are a few people posting about how good bd's drums sound and that should be enough to make you buy Dynasty. Please keep in mind that like many others out there, the staff at bd and other top corps is quite talented and creative, and could make a cardboard box sound like a top quality drum if the situation presented itself.

The conclusion of most of the posts on here are pretty clear, you need to check them out in person. Also, if you're not too comfortable tuning your own drum, have someone else help you out, because you wont get that "bd sound" right out of the box.

BD has been using the Dynasty vest carriers (which have been rediesigned now back in 04) since they switched to Dynasty in 2000. They have not used a Yamaha carrier while on Dynasty. The design used to be similar, but had some noticable differences.

It's quite possible you have not seen the design of the new carrier. The price is also much less than the tube carriers. I have seen more lines than just BD with Dynasty that have great sounding drums, so it's not just the people at BD.

I don't mean any offense to anyone in this post, but the Dynasty lug casings look weak to me. Altough they do have a super nice sound, I've always had a feeling about the lugs. Maybe it's just wierd assumption about the quality of them or something. They just look weak, especially on the snares. I think Dynasty drums only look good if they are custom wrapped or custom painted. Their stock colors are hideous. Can't complain about that lifetime warrantee though.
