"A" performs "B" for "C" in "X". Consider these foundations when considering a definition of music. Yes, music is the perception of sound and silence as intentionally organized through the use of archetypal, cultural, and academic standards. But we must consider: WHO determines what is music? WHO can be the performer (or what?) WHAT is being performed? and does the place where music occurs make a difference in the musical experience? I think this is one element jake and i did not give a lot of consideration to, and I will be spending a good deal of time taking this into consideration. i've been busy with other pursuits lately, but keep up the discussion - it's going well!

ah ah ah...I have discovered the TRUE definition. According to www.urbandictionary.com , the definition of MUSIC is: 1. Something you WILL NOT find on MTV or B.E.T., unless you are willing to stay up until 3:30a.m. just to watch a half-hour show on musicians from the 1980s. 2. Not nu-metal. Korn is not music, it is trash

Perhaps I should have said, "If you subscribe to the John Cage theory and thought process....."??

defining music is quite the challenge, much like predicting the weather in Michigan. It is always changing and evolving. Some is trash and some is inspiring. But someone is always enjoying the sounds.

mu·sic (meuzik) n. - The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre According to www.dictionary.com this is the main definition of music. Although this may be true, most people have their own believe as to what music actually is. It's the same as asking someone what love is or what life is about. It's an opinionated question.
