Practice basics. What we'll do at my school is to practice taking the first step in each direction many times to get form down. Then we go to taking 2 steps in that direction. Then, 8. Practice that at all different tempos. Good form is key, once you have that you can go anywhere.

Muscle memory. Well, it is when you are getting your step size down. The typical step is 22 1/2 inches, 8 steps for every 5 yards. This sadly is a lot of muscle memory, practice it.

Rolling your feet is another big part, its like a big dramatized walk is what it is, your gliding almost. You should bounce, and you should be moving forward, not going up or down at all, know how to do this? It's simple, kick your toe way up, and land with your heel, now roll you weigh over that foot onto the other, ect.

Thats as basic as you need now, you'll find these will give you some things to work on, after that you can start working on high step (If you are a showband, who happens to use slings) and crab walks (If your a corp band who uses harness-es)

just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.
