That's a good point....

I still don't see why he did this. I mean, I know why. To have "Ocho Cinco" on the back of his jersey. But was it worth legally changing your last name? There were 2 choices...

1) Just wear the Ocho Cinco jersey, but pay a fine each time he does

2) Legally change your last name to Ocho Cinco.

I would rather him do #1. After all, he should have enough money to pay it off. He gets payed to run out 20 yards, turn around, catch a ball, and then run some more.

Yes, but he can play and that's all the Bengals care about. Prince changed his name to a symbol and he still put together some of the greatest musicians ever assembled.

Meh. Just another reason why watching an NFL game is a waste of my time.

Its silly. Call him a tool and I think you're out of line.

Showboater? Attention whore? Possibly...possibly.

But this guy is a player. A damn good one who cares about the game and wants to win. He does work. He wants his team to win. And when you perform like he does, you can get away with some silly antics.

lol..then, I'm out of line. I agree he's a great player, legally changing your name JUST to have it on the back of your jersey? GTFoutta here.

I'm starting to feel a little more for college ball myself.

But I agree with Toe, legally changing your name just to have it on the back of a jersey is plain stupid. Just take the names off, they mean nothing to the jersey really.

It would be kinda funny if the Bengals countered the name change by simply removing players' names from the team jerseys.

Now that I think about it...shouldn't his name be OCHENTA SEIS?

I only took a couple of semesters of Spanish 20 years ago in college and just squeeked by but OCHO CINCO is just 8-6 and not eighty six.

Am I right here? Maybe some of you taking Spanish could help me out.

You're half right. It technically shouldn't be Ocho Cinco, that's just 8 and 5. Ochenta y cinco is 85.

You're wrong at the second digit. 85 not 86. 6= seis. 5= cinco.

Ochenta is right.
But you got his number wrong anyways, His number is 85, not 86 as your post shows.

But yes, absolutely that is right to show the correct value of the number (eighty five, not eight,five)... but its cool and "street" to take things out of their true meaning and pronounce them wrong.

Its not Fifty Cents. Its Fitty Cent.
When asking for information, you don't say "Give me the four-hundred and eleven." You say "give me the four one one"

But still, it DOES conflict with C.J.'s own speech. He calls himself in the thirdperson as "Eighty five" on occasion. That isn't consistent with "Ocho Cinco".

Yea, I think he meant on purpose to translate it to ocho cinco. When said in english, its going to be said "eight five". Now isn't that so much cooler then "eighty-five". *sarcasm*

Thanks you guys for catching that. Being from the Cincy area originally I should have known better. I stopped for happy hour after work last night so I was off my game.

Must be hard to row a douche canoe that big all alone.

This is why I am not a big sports fan. Too much bla bla bla. Just play...no talking just play. This may be why i like rugby and soccer more than traditional American sports.

I'd have to say this is one reason I'm a fan of soccer, too.

Speaking of athletes and weird name changes, UFC fighter Jon Koppenhaver legally changed his legal name to his nickname, War Machine. Read his blog post detailing why he did it here (profanity lies ahead).

But it seems that a number of European and Latin American soccer stars have the same primadonna tendencies as American football players.

Whatever the sport, I find all the jawing annoying, too. Just play the damn game. Rugby players have the right idea. Hockey's still pretty good, too.

That is EXACTLY why I quit football. I like the game, but the extra things that come with it are terrible.

with the ocho cinco versus ochenta or whatever; ocho cinco is (i think)snugglebunny cooler/better sounding than the latter. It also rhymes. Almost.

He could afford it, but he won't.

I wonder how many name changes you're allowed to have.

He should be able to change it back for now and make the deadline for next year's jersey shipment.
