Yeah we've known about this. There was a thread earlier but either way, this is pretty cool. I think I'm going to their audition camp to pick up some things. I've never been to one before...

Yes. Just, Yes. I can not wait for this corps to field. I'm getting an itch for Capital Regiment as my first tryout corp all of a sudden...

I'm just wondering if they are going to get enough brass players. Just like any drum corp I'm sure they get a ton of percussionists, Shoot they even said they get a lot more drummers then anything else. I'm just wondering if they are going to have enough horns to make an impact and not have to fold.

just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.

^Yeah... I might try and get a few friends that play brass instruments to come along. Anyone know who's on the perc staff? Wonder if it's all new after not fielding for a while. I thought some of the staff was from SCV but I could be wrong, or they could've all moved on after not fielding...

From the CR Forums, posted by the Director of CR himself:

There are some staff that has been set in stone. There are a couple things I'm still working on before I make a post announcing who the Captions will be. I'm still working on that and as soon as that is ready to be posted, it'll go up on the site.

After Capital Punishment in 2006, we'll see how they're going to end up at the end of the season. DCI is going to be on Rick Bays the entire time he is in charge of any corps. Personally, I wouldn't let my kid, student or friend audition there because of what happened then. You make your own choice. Granted, it's 3 years later and things may be in better financial situations, but I still wouldn't do it.

What happened in 06 that was so bad? I mean- I know they folded- but that's about the extent of what I know...

Cheese could probably explain what happened better, but from what other '06 members (from all sections) and staff have told me, it was pretty terrible. I was told that they weren't fed because they ran out of food, and Rick blamed it on the staff - not his negligence and lack of planning. Skipping meals or getting half an hour fruit breaks for a 4-6 hour block. They had birthday cake and ice cream for dinner one night because a member's parents brought it, nothing else. Then the rehearsal where the kids were so dehydrated and malnourished for their activity level that the fire department had to come hose them down, and then be fed by the Cavaliers. Yeah, good job, Rick. I wouldn't trust it.

Those are the only stories that I remember being told this summer, we had quite a few members talk about it all the time, and then claim that Rick is the antichrist. It wasn't just a one-time thing. I just have a terrible memory.

I know guys who were in the 06 corps, From everything Ive put together, most (though some) of what went wrong with things was not rick bays' fault. though It gets labeled that way because he is the director. From what I can tell having the big names on staff are what drove that year into hell... Skipping meals or getting small amount of time for a fruit break is not his decision, it was the staff deciding they didn't need to stop when rehearsal was over. Lack of water breaks, not the fault of the corps director, the blood is in the hands of the techs and caption heads....Ive had a small amount of experience with rick bays, and he seems to want to do the right thing for the kids all the time he can.

This reminds me of magic of orlando in 1999 (pittsfield massacre, anyone?) they took two seasons off and came back and made finals thier first year out. then 03 happened an and everyone was like "it was sooo bad there" I was there ... it wasnt. But they still had plenty of members wanting to march there in 04 and 05. Which again many were claiming what a poor experience it was, but again, wasnt as bad as the perception... at least until the end.

After fully reading the the press release, though vaugue, it seems like they board knew that there were changes that needed to be made before they would return and they are well on their way.
