This is just a question that's had me wondering for a bit. How exactly do corps audition the bass line? Do you show them what you can do on the snare or something, and then they decide who to move over to bass? Or do you pick a bass and try out for it, if you don't get it oh well?

This may be a vauge question, but it's something that I've been wondering. Sorry if it is.

People audition for Bass drum. They choose a drum...tryout...playing the unison and split parts. If they need to be moved around, they are moved around. If they need to get cut, they get cut.

so basically you grab a bass, play the part. if they feel you belong on a different bass then they'll put you on that bass. if u don't make the standards, you're gone.

Nope, its pretty straight forward. No need to type up a couple of paragraphs explaining the process. Its the same as auditioning for any other section.

If you tryout for _______ corps, quad line, you will show up with the aroundparts learned...so why not learn the splits for the drum you want to tryout for?

Bassdrummers aren't snare or tenor cuts as often as they are in the highschool setting.

The teams I marched with only cut a snare or quad player to bass if a someone bailed during the season.

Initial cuts were just cuts. They didn't send you somewhere else unless you asked.
