Having A GREAT Year.

So far I seem to be having a great year In drumline. I'm having a lot of fun, I'm a sophomore and it's my first year on tenors. It gets kind of annoying force feeding the other tenor drummer music but I think I'm doing good.
Our caption head and our tech seem have good faith in me. Our tech asked me If I was interested in drum corps and I was like HELL YES!
So he told me to go to some audition camps to learn some stuff. I've heard of doing that before but I just don't have much confidence in myself at all and I don't wanna make a fool of myself.
But I do really wanna go, I forgot I know of two people going to cavies and blue stars camps and I could just go with them. I just don't know if I'm good enough, what are your thoughts, I think I'm just rambling.

Arn't there some corps that will let you come and just stay at the camp. So you don't have to pay the audtion fee, but you still pay the camp fee? And so far everyone I've talked to is also scared to go try DCI, to see if they are good enough, but I figure, If the staff is encouraging you, why not go? Whats the worst that happens, you get cut, but you also learn a TON of stuff in just one weekend, I hear they are a blast. But if you don't have that confidence yet, I suggest you try to go to the bluestars camp before you go Cavvies, Get some marching experience with the stars, I'm sure it will help if you decide to go Cavvies later.

My favorite YouTube comment On the subject of a bad tenor player just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.

First of all, if you don't have some confidence in yourself then why should the staff? Going to an audition camp is a great learning experience. Maybe you're not quite playing at that level yet but at least you'll get an idea of where you are and what you need to do to get there.
Just go. It's a great time. so are you saying i have confidence in myself? I'm confused I mean I do but not much, I think I should be a lot better for a sophomore in high school

I agree with everyone above. Go, worst thing that could happen is they ask you to come again next year. You'll learn snugglebunny. And no we are not all like the jay kid on youtube (that kid is amazing), but im sure you give yourself too little credit.

I agree with everyone above. Go, worst thing that could happen is they ask you to come again next year. You'll learn snugglebunny. And no we are not all like the jay kid on youtube (that kid is amazing), but im sure you give yourself too little credit. If it hasn't been done already, I'm writing a warm-up, cadence or something and naming it "snugglebunny" just for this site. I just love it. Back on topic. There's a lot of options out there for you. Go to some camps, any camps, all the camps you possible can. You will learn so much in 2 days it will blow your mind. If you do nothing more than just sit on the side I promise you will learn something. Don't worry about your playing level, you're still young and with smart practice and dedication you'll advance quickly. Who knows you may suprise yourself and get an invitation to join a line. Consider some smaller corps as well as the big ones, you can get some more personal attention there. Don't forget about DCA corps either, there not just for us old folks, many accept members of all ages and you can still learn a lot from some experienced veterans. Keep having fun and have a great year!

Holy poop, that's scarily similar to my story.
I'm a sophmore, playing my first fall season on tenors (I was on tenors for winter last year too, bass for fall). I'm also having a blast :p The other tenor player didn't practice at all over the summer, while I practiced daily, so I'm much better than him now where we were equal last winter. So I'm also fore feeding the other tenor the music :p
My caption head also asked me if I was interested in drum corps, and I was like HELL YES!
And I also want to go to audition camps to learn and whatnot, but don't want to make a fool of myself.
But I don't know anyone in cavies or blue stars, so it seems like you're not EXACTLY me.
tl;dr: stop being me :p That's weird though, 'eh?
