Yea, it may not look like your drum is damaged now, but wait till you change heads, and the drum is so weak it just starts falling apart. I would imagine a kevlar head at a low tension might give you an odd color, but don't crank it past tension at all. I wouldnt trust this idea on anything other then a crappy snare that you don't really care about.
Bottom line, its just not meant for that tension, now maybe, if you were able to put the free-floating ring on the snare... Didn't pearl already make a free-floater drumset?
The
Pearl free-floater drum set snares all have the suspension ring on the bottom side, and the shell sits on top. Wouldn't do much good unless someone wanted a Kevlar resonant head.
