I'll try to make this as short as possible.

Lately I've been feeling that if I'm not at rehearsal, the last thing I want to do is pick up the sticks. But at the same time, I can't wait for the next rehearsal.

I don't know why I'm getting this feeling, because I love playing. I'm guessing it could be because playing by myself get's really boring. Or maybe it's because I don't have a well thought out practice schedule. Or maybe it's because I have so many distractions around me, like television and my computer.

My question is, do you get this feeling often or even at all? How many of you can actually play by yourself for hours every day without getting bored?

I hope I'm not alone with this.. O_o

Mike

P.S - I'm not complaining, whining, or asking for help, just incase it seems that way. I'm just curious if any of you get this feeling.

Hahaha, that is what I feel exactly. Mainly because I don't have any thing fun to work on right now. If I have a good reason to practice (competition coming up or something like that) I will, but if I don't have a reason to then I will slack off. Big time.

sometimes I would get that feeling. Usually this early in the season nothing is really going on except football games, and you just got out of camp or are about to go to camp so you're feeling tired and exhausted and overloaded. The best thing you can do is just relax for a little while and then practice. If normally you would practice for 2 hours, maybe take 15-30 minutes and relax alittle more and then get to work
You have to remember that you are part of a group and everybody else depends on you just as much as you do them. And you have to, even when you don't want to, do whatever needs to be done

I usually practice for a few hours. It's boring as anything sometimes, especially because I play bass, but I still do it

It's nothing to be too conscerned about unless it starts to become a chronic thing

Band camp is actually tomorrow. :p

Not too long after I posted this topic, I picked up my sticks and told myself, "You need this". And after I started I couldn't stop! I think it's because I switched it up, and instead of playing along the the annoying "beep beep" of the metronome, I chopped out some rudiments along to some groovy tunes.

I get this feeling snugglebunny!!!!!Im sure it's common among us drummers......Just like everything else, we practice and get better and then start to lack focus and concentration on practice because it doesn't seem like we are improving anymore. What I did to freshen up my practice was buy the SCV and Cavies audition packets off of tapspace.......Everyday i warm up w/ 8s,double beat, accent tap, paradiddles etc. and then I work on one specific piece of music from one of the packets.....after I try to work on the audition pack for the corp. im actually going to try out for.....All in all if u get this feeling because ur bored of what u aleady have.....buy new music.

Its okay to feel this way, but you have to pick up the sticks at home anyways. Rehearsal is to REHEARSE not to "practice".

You will get better through a season just playing at rehearsals, but you won't get far at all.

Dude... I'm like that everyday. I wanna get better but I don't really have anything challenging to do. Learning double beat on tenors kept me playing for a while though. It's really hard to work on chops for a couple hours.

Being a perfectionist sometimes leads to procrastination. You don't want to practice because you know how long you're going to take, and you can't stop until what you started was perfect. Plus, it's pretty stressful until you do figure it out. That's what causes me to sit on my butt and not practice sometimes.

I dont "play for hours" each day

Every time i walk by sticks, i want to do some
pecking//practicing rudiments and its last for
about 10-15 minutes. Then I get bored and do
my thing. Then I'll feel like playing a little
later, and the cycle goes on. Adding up all
the portions of time that i play probably leads
to an hour, but i don't do it all at once. That
would indeed get boring. And frustrating if I'm
stuck on something

hey, i'm new to this site, i'm a senior and play tenors at my school.

but yeah, after a couple of hours i definitely feel that way. but if i get bored with the music i have, then i usually search for other music to check out and learn, or even just learn some new rudiments that i didn't already know.
