Let me preface this by saying that I know there's a difference between the Black Suede and Ebony Suede. But...

Has anyone tried the new Black Suede head from Remo on a set of quads? From what I understand on the website, they are fairly bright and wide open, but I'm curious to see how they would do as a spock head. Anyone tried it?

Pretty sure nobody has, they haven't made a crimp version for marching percussion yet. I only ever tried the Ebony and I didn't like them at all. Way to dark hardly and attack. tenor voice totally got lost.

I would be interested to see how the Blacks do compared to the Ebony.

If you're looking for black heads, you could give the Evans MX Black a shot. It's supposedly Evans' brightest sounding tenor head.

We're using the Evans MX Black tenors heads at MCL and they sound great as well as being quite durable. They are brighter than the MX White heads which kind of takes you by surprise.

I'm actually still loving the sweet sound of pinstripes, but I've always liked a brighter head for the spock. Looking on remo.com the Black Suede (while not crimplocked...) look like they could be interesting. The order's already been made, so I'll let you know how it goes. Just wondered if anyone else had tried it.
