Hasn't this been discussed somewhere around seven times I believe. Lol. I think the slimpad with the laminate is pretty good.

Personally, I don't think the Slimpad feels all that accurate (unless your drum feels like playing on wood). I prefer my old RealFeel. It was starting to seem like I was the only percussionist to think that way. lol I've had my original RealFeel for nearly two decades now. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I like my Slimpad a lot. I had the laminate off the other day and it accidentaly got attatched to a piece of paper. It didn't come off cleanly, so I cut the laminate into smaller, 3" diameter circles. I put one in the middle of the pad to help with playing in the center. It helps a lot and I've noticed a difference when playing on a real drum as far as note consistency and quality

Honestly, I don't think there will ever be a pad that feels like a kevlar head. It's just not the same, no matter what you do, its rubber vs. thread, You just can't replicate kevlar 100%. Now the slimpad is pretty noisy, and to me it dosn't feel like its a kevlar head, but it gives a more minor case of pad hands then a real-feel, thats for sure. Not that its a big deal, but it only takes me about 5 minutes to adjust, compared to the 20 or so it took after I drummed on a real-feel for a year.
I would say all you need is a real-feel and some time to adjust before you go back to the drum, but it's your call. If your looking for durability and silence, The real-feel is more up your alley. If your looking for a tighter feel (although not all the way there) then you might want to look into the slimpad.

My favorite YouTube comment On the subject of a bad tenor player just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.

Honestly, I don't think there will ever be a pad that feels like a kevlar head. It's just not the same why not just take an old kevlar head and put it over the drum pad , athough that probley wouldent work, I use a stock pad but I havent been playing on my snare long enough to notice the difference.
