Every year it seems our band has more sets in our show and this year we have 79 sets. I was just wondering how many sets some of you guys have to march?

Well we started this year off learning a sort of mini-show, just so the newbies had an idea of how to learn sets, put everything together, etc. before we got to the real show. If I'm not mistaken there's 16 sets to that, for one song (land of 1000 dances, *yawn*) our main show will probably have 80ish sets.

our show has already 52 sets for just the first 2 movements of 4 and im guessing the next two will have around the same bringing the total to around 110

We have 6 sets for our pre-game show. This is our first year ever having a marching band so thats all we're taking on this year.

I don't understand what all this means. We learn the drills song by song. I don't like it, really, cause we always play dumb, radio played songs that aren't interesting in the least. What is a set and how does it differ from learning a song or movement as a whole?

A set is a drill formation. In any given song or movement, there are typically many sets, corresponding to the phrases in the music. As the music progresses from phrase to phrase, you march from set to set.

Ok. We learn each song at a time, but in little parts. Theses usually all match with phrases, but nobody called em sets. On that note, not that many sets for our band. We're only like...24 people this year...

I think we have 5 or 6 for Pre-game, and then probably somewhere around 30 for the halftime. Note we don't use curvature though, We use the old...er... Bill *something* style charts.

just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.
