I thought he did well? Obviously, this is the first season he's going to get action all season, and he might make mistakes, but you know what? It shouldn't matter. He's a great QB with awesome potential.

Look at Michael Strahan. Awesome player, awesome guy, retired, no problem. Now he's happy, working in the box with somw commentators, and left the game while he was on top.

Steve McNair also made a quiet, subtle retirement. Just said, "I don't think I have enough left for another season." and left.

Strahan left because he won a super bowl. He would still be playing if that had not happened.

..and don't get me started on McNair. You said Favre should have retired 2 years ago...at least Favre was decent (obviously above that in 07, not so much in 06). McNair was done when the Titans showed him the door. He was supposed to come in and be the missing piece of the puzzle for the Ravens to win another Super Bowl. What happened....NOTHING. His mobility was gone and so was his arm strength. He moped around his last year in Tennessee (last one there, first one to leave) and did not try to do extra work with the new receivers. Even though he was a mentor to Vince Young, he did not want to be one teaching him the ropes. As soon as he gets to Baltimore he is coming in early, staying over to work with receivers, and everyone is raving about his attitude. If he had done that stuff in TN, he never would have been locked out of the practice facility. His last 3 years were a joke.

C'mon Jared, he coached three years, won almost 150 games and was in the Eastern Conference Finals every year. No, it wasn't a long coaching career but I would grade it well.

Yes, I probably should have left Issel off that list but being from Kentucky I couldn't help including him somehow. I would have to check his coaching record to refresh my memory but I only recall the one decent season when they upset the Sonics.

I'm not sure about that. I don't see him being a QB coach in the NFL but I easily picture him working the college sidelines as an assistant somewhere just for something to do in retirement. Personally, Favre leaving Green Bay is bittersweet to me. There's nothing like watching him work on a football field but as a Bears fan I'm glad he's taken his butt somewhere else.

I'm 99% a non-superstitious guy, but does anyone else believe in the Madden Curse? I love believing in it, it's just a very interesting observation.

And guess who's on the cover of Madden 09?

Hint: He acts as Brett Favre in a soap opera.

For those of you who don't know what the Madden Curse is, here's a great article explaining and analyzing it:
