Who was your favorite drumline and who do you think was the cleanest drumline this 2008? Blue Devils are usually my favorite although this year and last year was kind of an "ehhhh" thing for me.

Im gonna have to say for me Phantom i just think they are amazing this year.

I would say Phantom, but I can't judge until I've seen them live. I'll say SCV.

Phantom and SCV are throwing down. Also Scouts are doing much better than their scores are showing.

as to just any i would say Phantom or Cavies.

however i haven't seen either of those live.

so out of the ones i've seen i would have to say SCV. and again like someone said above. Madison Scouts are doing better than the scores show.

They have the whole package. Their front ensemble is just amazing and the line is playing some serious notes (hopefully the snares cleaned up a couple exposed rolls....).

Well, If we are talking drum line, as in the battery, I think the best battery belonged to the Bluecoats. But if your talking percussion in general, The bluedevils have to take that catagory, simply because they have a better pit then the bluecoats.

even though the best battery was bar none the bluecoats, phantom just has the cleanest and most musical percussion section this year

so i go with phantom

As far as drumline goes, Bluecoats win in my book. The bass drum solo melted my face and I enjoyed every second of listening to their line. Also I think the scores speak for themselves; judges had Bluecoats at 3rd (in percussion) behind Phantom and Cavies, all amazing programs.

And I do like Coats' percussion section the best.

Bluecoats were not the best percussion section tonight.

It was Phantom, without a doubt. They were easily the cleanest and had the most impressive book in both the battery and the pit. Their ballad played like a concert percussion piece, musically and technically. The percussion ensemble back to front was spotless. They had the demand and they executed the crap out of their book. And I won't even go into the listening responsibilities.

That said, Bluecoats percussion were very good as well. However, their pit was nowhere in the same league as Phantom or maybe even Crown.

And thats exactly what killed the Coats percussion this year. They are pulling north texas college kids, They have an amazing battery, and they execute clean, and great...as a battery, The pit just isn't up to par with the battery.

With that being said, Phantom did deserve to win, As much as I love the Coats (And I love my bloocoatz) the pit killed the chance at high percussion. I have a feeling they are going to be getting a diffrent pit tech or a new one, It was obvious, everyone knew the Coats pit was weak. I have a feeling next year it won't be.

It's not that the Coats pit was "weak". They didn't have the book to even compete with Cavies, Crown, or Phantom. They were clean with what they had. It's not their pit tech's fault.

Ok, Maybe weak was not the best word to use. Well, Its not a word, but the pit was just not on the same level as the drumline. Either way, I have a big feeling the pit is going to be overhauled next year. And the way things seem to work in this world, They might find a way for it to be the pit-techs fault. But we won't know till november I guess.

When you work with a battery that is as freakishly good as Coats', it becomes difficult for anyone to match the talent level. The front ensemble was certainly a talented group of people, and by all means played a fairly difficult book with a great deal of cleanliness. It may not have been perfect, nor did it have the highest demand, but that happens from year to year. And considering that Bluecoats has a number of front ensemble instructors, as well as two percussion coordinators and the arranger looking after them, I don't think you can really pinpoint one person in holding the ensemble back. Little things, like nuances in the book that don't necessarily "match" the performers, can cause bigger difficulties. It doesn't necessarily equate to one person. I wouldn't be expecting a complete overhaul of the front ensemble program at Bluecoats next year.

I think the Cavaliers produced a great sound this year and also played some sweet clean beats.

I was diggin the Bluecoats for sure. I also like BD and Cavies as well

but Phantoms line was the best for me.

I may just be a fan boy. They weren't super clean. I just really like them. My vote is Cadets. So much fun to watch their battery.

bluecoats and cavies. i haven't seen much of phantom, but i liked what i saw this year.

blue devils was ehh, though the drum set/battery exchange part BEFORE the body work part was awesome. like, i don't know what's more amazing, that the drum set player is playing that stuff or that the battery is splitting that stuff.

My vote goes to Phantom for battery, Crown for pit.

I honestly think Bluecoats had an enjoyable battery, but I vote Phantom as the best '08 battery. As for pit, Crown.

Anytime, man. I got to see you guys a few times in the lot. Once in Houston and then again during finals week. I was pretty sad that I didn't get to see the lot & show more often this summer, though.

Cavies were my favorite this year. Their drum break was awesome.

i have seen most of them in pratice or compition, but i think i would go with SCV, rather than blue devils this year.

santa clara, really, what made them stand out to you? i thought ther show was enjoyable, but i didnt think they were the best. I really like bluuuuuuuuu, but i dont even think they were the best, phantom was just untouchable, i didnt think it was even close. Go phantom, with second to the clueboats.

Cavaliers. book was great. certainly one of the most difficult START TO FINISH.

jk...well i saw scv and they were very impressive at points but i thought the cavaliers were overall much cooler, they had a really awesome show. I didn't see anyone else live so my vote is with the cavaliers.
