I actually disagree.

Sometimes (the majority of the time, actually), I think the people who choreograph the Olympic ceremonies get WAY too artsy for their own good. The effect and majesty may look cool, but any message to the average person watching is totally lost.

I think DCI, for the most part, does a better job of putting shows together than many people, longtime fans or not, can still understand and relate to.

I agree. Drum Corps, I think, has a lot more creativity. They do their shows all summer long, and at a higher pace then the Countries walk in the Opening Ceremonies.

While I agree with the above 2 posts to a point, I do think inspiration can be found anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that some of the people involved in the design process of the opening and closing ceremonies had some corps and/or color guard experience in their background. Inspiration is just the spark of an idea. Although I know nothing about drill design, I remember watching watching traffic flying down I75 around the Atlanta area. The way cars were weaving in and out of lanes, sometimes seemingly in sync, did give me an idea for spicing up a parade route. Again, inspiration can be found anywhere, just open your eyes and mind.

did you guys actually see the opener today?? it wasn't like the times before..
i think kids don't listen enough anymore, the discipline in china is tottaly different and a lot harder, i've been there a half year ago..
the opener act, was learned to them in less then 10 months, and there where kids younger than 10 years in the group..
I think the message came true, and to me it wasn't lost..
and i think most of the 4000000000 people who saw it, think the same..

i think drumcorps can learn from any kind of new creativity, and especially from the olympic opener, if you've seen it, you'll understand..
