One day during practice the visual tech (who had graduated from our school last year) told us that the word of the day was "Don't suck." I pointed out that it was two words, and everyone cracked up. He replied "Ima kill you!"

So now whenever someone is sucking in our line (particularly the basses) we say, "word of the day: Don't suck!"

And now, a word from our sponsors...

GOt a few...
we had to march a parade, with a ragtag drumline. 3 snare vets, 2 tenors, and a few random bass drums. The cadence didnt sound very pretty.
So a few days later at our first practice, one of the techs asks how the parade went. I said... "alright, but the bass drums sounded like shoes in a dryer." The kid standing next to me happens to be called shoes... him and the tech looked at me like i was crazy.

Well here's another:

during concert season, the entire percussion section was talking, and the BD was talking about grace notes. He said that it had to do with them to, them, they just kept talkin, so the BD halfway snaps, and almost pops a blood vessel in his other eye (he popped a blood vessel in his eye wever years ago)

"Guys, come on. Just cus I'm teaching the Winds how to play grace notes, all I hear back there is Laughing. Now what in the world could be so funny?! These grace notes come to you in the way of flams! How do you expect to be on MY drumline, and know nothing about flams and ruffs?! Get with the program, or get out. And don't think I can't replace ALL of you. I got 8 freshmen coming up, so I have plenty. Now... " he goes on explaining flams, etc

One time I was talking during concert band (while he was addressing the winds I'm sure) and the band director threw a chalkboard eraser at my head. Not really much of a saying, but it was effective.

Wow, we have a lot.

"Anywhere's fine." Whenever someone knocks something over
"No one dies in drumline." Whenever someone does something dangerously stupid
"You guys have a bit of a reputation now because you just went out and won something. And people in the lot are going to be expecting to see a state champion drumline. But you guys don't want to go out there and be the guy who loses his towel in the locker room and is packing this: (holds thumb and first finger about an inch apart). And right now you all are hung like elevator buttons."
"Be the monkey who went into space."
"You're being blown." One winter we did a show about wind.
I have to tell my snareline to "Stooooooooooop" all the time.

There are more but I can't think of any.

i thought of this last night after i logged off. not something we say regularly but something that sticks out in our memories.

last year we did a patriotic show so we were in army camo fit the theme.

so we get to the county expo and all the other bands are in normal uniforms and such. and our first bass stands up and goes
"Hey Mr.Cornutt, you know you're a redneck band when everyone else is in uniform, and you show up in camo!"

^lol

well, i got a few.

"just go ahead and leave that anywhere" - said when anyone drops or knocks over something
"you just made your drum retarded!" - first said by bass 2 to bass 1 after she dropped her drum while trying to put it on the right way after putting it on upside-down
"give us clean beats, you filthy, dirty whore!" - 8-count chant during our opener this year accompanied by a "come here" visual and "spanking" the side of the snare right on the "whore"
"no sperm, no fetus!" - trademark tenor chant. first yelled (very loudly) during our last show last year, during 4 counts of silence.
"heyy chu crazy beesh" - said after the drumline watched apocalypto during a dinner break and swore we heard the main character saying that to his wife.
"eyyyy" - said to our bass 2 when he wears a leather jacket, which makes him look like the fonz

this isnt a saying but in our line if we drop a stick or mallet, our section leader will throw it, assuming he doesnt have a drum on and its convienent to do so. does anybody else do this or do you take things seriously? laugh

That reminds me, it was winter line and our first bass who can be stupid sometimes was talking while our instrucor was talking and so he walks up, grabs his mallet and throws it across the gym. our bass ran for it . haha.

A saying our instructor uses a lot when people are talking while he is talking is "hey! get his number and talk to eachother later." its funny when he adds other stuff.

"LOL!"

we do that. mainly the instructor. when we're standing at attenting or something he'll go by, and slap ur sticks has hard as he can to see if you'll drop them or not. if you do he'll pick it up, and throw it across the field. its become somewhat of a game of ours now

and a recent saying is "3 times."
we'll just say it at random times for some reason. im not sure how it got started, but i think it was to replace swearing orginally not sure though.

oh and then last year at band camp, we ran through the drum solo and at the end of it the instructor said
"That sounded like two skeletons making love on a tin roof top, during a thunder storm, with boots in the dryer."
