I was wondering if anyone has seen the Spartans yet this year. B/c i have heard that they have a hornline of 20 people and their drumline is normal size. It also sounds like in general that they might be close to folding, which would really be a shame since i want to try out for them next year. I am on their mailing list and once they sent me mail that was more or less begging for money and horn players. Have any of you heard anything? I really am hoping that they don't fold.


Oh yeah, and i also heard that about mid season Spartans decided to more or less rent their drumline from a university down in texas. Thoughts?

you can see their drumline in this video, looks like 2 or 3 quints, and by the sizes (heights and builds) of the players it looks more like a hs line than a usual drumcorps line.

I know nothing about them but I hope not.

Spreading rumors about a corps folding, regardless of intent and whether they are true or not, is always a risk though probably less so during the season than during the fall.

their drums are not what you heard, they took delivery of a new Dynasty set this season.

as far as fold i dont know but i can find out. IPT's tenor tech is the Caption head at Spartans, our full ensemble tech is their program coordinator.

I know many of the staff at spartans and can tell you that they were in no danger of folding. They are one of the most financialy stable corps around in any division.

wow...i didn't know that. I wasn't trying to spread rumors, i was just concerned b/c i was planning on trying out for them next season.

I would not count them out bro. There was some personality conflicts high up and a HUGE amount of their staff changed and with this change the old staff followed one high up staff to another area corps and thus bringing a loyal following of students...so the current staff was assembled rather late and have been playing catch up the entire pre-season. I would look for good things to happen at Spartans next year.

If I'm not misjudging . . . Their entire percussion ensemble is larger than the brassline?

yes they were a good show...their marching seemed a tad bit weak...but i didn't really notice till later in the night when i saw the other div 1 corps. the percussion line was still really strong though. the music was good as well, like the show. if they weren't so small the show would have been awesome. I think they received a 54.20 for a score.
