welp tryouts were today but we our time was shortened cuz my director had to leave early due to family emergencies. so our instructor wasn't able to talk things over with my director and get the all clear on what he wants to do. however he did tell us that they're thinkin about 3 snares 4 basses and 2 tenors...possibly 2 cymbals 2 pit (or 4 depending on the cymbals)...anywayz...my instructor wouldn't tell us all what he was thinking but if we wanted to speak to him 1 on 1 that he would...
so i one of 3 who wanted to..did..and he told me that snugglebunny depended on whether we have two tenors or not but if we did most likely be our current tenor and myself...so my hard work paid off and i thank everyone who contributed.

I'm embarrased to admit it but i once used cardboard to simulate a set of tenors. i found a good sized piece and found the measuments of my schools set and using tape, i made the outlines on each drum, being very careful to make the measurements correct. but the problem with cardboard is the lack of rebound.
of course if you know you will be on tenors next year, totally get a heavy hitter pad. and quad logic. good luck

u should start off getting clean on one practice pad and move on from there. work on stuff like 8 on a hand diddle exercises keeping stick control and appearance in mind. After you feel confident with that, you should start practicing on tenor-like pads.

Playing areas are directly linked to sound quality so as long as you're in the proper playing areas, you're half-way to quad proficiency. Also your overall technique has to be spot on. Like markhan91 says, you should be able to do every excercise in the Quad Logic book on one drum/pad. This relates to Bill Bachman's theory of X and Y axes. Get your Y axis down (heights mainly) and X axis you should be able to adapt to easily.
I would practice double strokes, single strokes, 8 on a Hand, Double Triple Beat, ANY accent-tap excercise you can get your hands on, flams (accent, tap, and grace heights), and double stops. Double stops on quads are important. Don't get them mixed up with flams! I used to have that bad habit.
Good luck

yea. i know my areas and stuff. i got the music down pat. scrapes are sort of a challenge at the tempo we're going but not too much of a challange. Thats for me though my fellow tenor player has problems with them. However, im sure he'll get them down. He's a good player. Also out of everyone on the line, he's like 2'nd in the rankings of who practices the most. 1'st being me .
