Excuse me if this post is useless, feel free to delete, but I'm a bit desperate...

I wound up running over a corps-mate's tenor pad the other week, and I had to replace hers with my Murray Gusseck pad. I loved that pad, but I really need another one. I absolutely hate the vic firth quadropads, and everything is ridiculously expensive, as I am a college student and out of cash...

So weren't there a whole bunch of threads about making your own pad on here a while ago? I have been unable to find any of them. Search function and google have both failed me.

yea i had this money problem so this is how i did it

1.Get 5 mousepads
2.Cut them in the correct sizes of tenors(i cant remember the sizes right now)
3.glue them on a desk/piece of wood.

this may not be the best but it worked for me untill i got my quadropad.

i would say get gum rubber from home depot instead
mousepad rubber is alittle too soft and might give pad hands faster than a normal pad w/ gum rubber would

What's the usual price for some gum rubber? (by the foot or yard or inch. whatever they use.)

You cannot however get a very low durometer (softness of the rubber) from hardware stores atleast none that I have found. just google gum rubber sheet/rolls or gum rubber gasket, and you can find some companies that sell gum rubber. If I remember correctly most pads are made with gum rubber with a druometer of 35-45. somewhere in that range

What can I say Iv'e done some research. Majoring in Plastic and rubber engineering in college also helps wink By the way I'm prototyping a tenor pad right now and I'll post a pic of it when I get it finished in the next couple of weeks.

I've heard rumors about a decent layer of silly putty doing the trick, I guess it will take a beating, but I'm sure you have to fix it every once in a while.

Someone brung up the idea today, said it works great, just throw it back in the egg and go. I personally havnt tried it though.

just to let you guys know, being a drummer, he meant to hit the rims, it's part of the effect. It changes it up a bit.

Search 87145K84

$23 for a 12"x24" sheet.

Here's a great gum rubber to use for tenor pads. Thick enough to be close to the normal rebound, but still cheap and durable.

JaredJD, FTW.
