I was searching for pictures of the corps new drums. I noticed that most of the Dynasty corps are using deeper shells then normal. I guess they are trying to appease the people like Yamaha did? From the pictures I saw they must be beasts.

I wonder how much weight that adds. Dynasty tenors are heavy enough without the extra deep shells. (Looking at that picture of BDB... For the sake of my back, I'm glad we had the old shallow Yamahas when I was there!)

Personally, I like Dynasty's standard shell depth. Their tenor sound has more body than Yamaha's shallower shells without the "tubby" sound of Pearl tenors.

Those new setups do look pretty heavy.

I wonder if they've redesigned the shell beyond just depth.

Even in that tiny picture, you can see all of them thinking "oh my god, my back!"

I saw Glassmen's drums first and I wasn't to sure till I started seeing other Dynasty lines. I agree with Skydog, I know they want to appeal to broader range of consumer. I liked the sound of the normal shells. they had a lot of definition and still maintained projection. I am curious what they sound like. but I am so glad I don't have to march those.

Glassmen's finish is pretty sweet as normal

The word on the street is the tenors aren't any longer on the backside than they were in recent years, but the projection cut is more shallow making the front of the shells come down a little farther.

That would make sense (in response to what Hulka said). I saw the Glassmen in a video and I thought "Wow, those drums look really deep. But how can that be if they march Dynasty?"

more shell material = more weight. i still don't see the point unless the staff particularly wanted a "tubby" sound. Those drums are heavy enough.

side not I know Yamaha does that. You can get what they call "extra" deep shell tenors.. the back side is the same length as a normal set. but the front comes down and has less of a cut. Madison usually opts for that cut recently.

looking at it from another angle its nice that each company is trying to appease everyone so you're not stuck with one sound as an option. just wish our backs wouldn't have to suffer.

I doubt a little extra wood on the front side of the shell is adding much more weight. BUT, seeing as the Dynasty big boy six pack is the heavyweight champion at 35.6 pounds, they don't need to be making them ANY heavier.
