Because for every person who wants to see it dead there are about 6 who love it.

I thought Grievous' made no sense at all until I saw the sheet music. It really only grooves at the end after the tempo change.

Why can't it die? Same reason that Pachelbel's Canon, Bach's Toccata in D Minor (well, allegedly Herr Bach's), Mozart's operas and requiem, Schubert and Schumann's lieder and drum corps jokes about John Cage's 4'33" won't die. People like them, they're well written, and newer isn't always better.

I don't disagree with any of that, I guess there's just part of me that hopes maybe one day I can get through a band season without hearing some no talent high school kid butcher it in the lot.

I've been told they're making a new Ditty. Not going to get into all the details, but I'm expecting something. I've seen the tenor part, one of my friends has a copy. Called something like.. "Dit'08" I don't remember exactly. Don't know if they plan on keeping it or they threw the idea. Guess we'll wait!
Really excited for their show this season too! I think it sounds cool!!!

Pretty much. Even from just hearing it, too, there are some notes that sound like they were just thrown in randomly, too, tenor/snare-mixed wise, like a "oo..this would be cool to play." I would hope it needs to sound good, too.

They should work on Ditty all summer discretely, and in the lot on Finals night, play it, even 2 times maybe. Same with Vanguard on Wheelchair, although I'd be much more interested if they did that with Wheelchair than BD doing Ditty.

I've heard rumors (of course rumors aren't the way to go..) that Murray has actually remixed Martian Mambo a little, though, so I guess look out for that on-the-field. I doubt it, though.

Not that harsh, I'm pretty sure that was a generalization not specifically meant for you. I do agree, you hear some snareline at ever show try to hack through it, knowing its above their heads. It does get a little tiring. I role my eyes every time I see a line attempt it. Sorry maybe i'm harsh too.

Martian Mambo remixed would be cool to hear. Ditty overall is a fan favorite especially for the kids who never actually got to hear it live (like me). I'm not clambering to hear a new version, but if it sounds alright, then fine by me.

My greivance is related to the appropriate environment for attempting a piece at that level.

If you want to learn it, super. Work on it at rehearsals with your friends at school, or whatever. I did the same thing 15 years ago when it came out; it was a lot of fun and a great challenge for your eyes and hands. It is still something I suggest my more advanced students check out- when they're ready.

My displeasure in it's performance stems from the kids that insist on embarassing themselves and the rest of their team by doing it in a public venue.

No one is hating on YOU, or even high schoolers that try to play ditty in general. Like snarepaint said, we're laughing about a few isolated incidents of drumlines attempting to perform that warmup, not just at practice, we're talking in the lot in full uniform at finals. And it's not just ditty, it's always embarrassing to watch a drumline struggle through parts (again, in a performance setting) that are much too hard for their ability level. Work on it until it's ready to show off, THEN show it off.

Wow...so I don't know what other people think- but it seems like they took 3 bars from The Ditty (one at the beginning, middle, and end) and wrote around them with a whole new exercise. Not trashing on it- but just thinking it shouldn't as much be compared to the original at all because it's not barely even a remix- just a new warm-up all together.

As far as I know, they don't play an on-field before their show. They didn't at DCI West at least. They play it during their warm-up and I'm sure before an encore.

She knows one of the techs.

I have a question for everyone.

http://promark.com/video_players/main_player/index.cfm?videoID=%23%27%5E%40%3B%0A&verticalScrollPosition=0

I think It's cool. I much more prefer the original.

I have a question though, it's really bugging me!
So I have the Blue Devils Book of Drumming, and Ditty in it. I noticed that in the book, it is spelled Ditty.. with t's. In the link above, it is spelled Diddy, with d's. Is this a typo, or are they somewhat re-naming it?

That just caught my attention for some reason. Any answer to this would be appreciated!

Fixed the spelling, but still have it listed as a cadence.

Honestly, I could understand a non-percussive sponsor like a marching shoe getting it wrong, but a stick company should know what's up.

You know, websites make mistakes even if it is a stick company. The IT person may have just misread and spelled it wrong. On top of that it was listed as cadence for generalities.

Anyway my sister is a Blue Devil this year and from what she has heard the general response is people DIG the Remix.

Shout out to the sister. Take it all.
GO BD.
