Same here. My school doesn't start our camps until August. However, I've been practicing. I'd say that I've been practicing hard, but that would be a lie. I'm not practicing as much as I should be, but I'm still practicing. I just need a little motivation.

My motivation is just the thought of all the incoming freshmen who think they're god's gift to drumming. Whenever I'm not practicing, someone else is.

Congrats on making tenors!

Have you been going continuously for the past two months? If so, it's really impressive that the whole line would be in town throughout the summer and willing to work, way to go!

I'm with almost everybody else, Our band camp doesn't start until july 28......we only get a week this year since our summer vacation is cut short, but then we have another month ahead of other schools, I will most likely be playing Bass 2 again for field show, but I been practicing daily on snare for our winter drumine.

the band as a whole: camp doesn't start til July 21st goes through that week and then cotinues through the following week.

me personally: i have known my music by heart since the week school got out so all i have to do is put marching to it and make sure its clean between me and my fellow tenor

The drumline started in January for us! I'd be going crazy if it hadn't started yet. The whole band has only had 2 weeks though and that was only for a parade. Actual marching band doesn't start at my high school until July 2 but that's cool because the drumline has had practice for quite a while now. We have more than a leg up haha.

So I've heard the music and the first drum parts my instructor has written.

It freakin awesome.

Our show is entitled MOTION BEYOND

idk the name of the songs, but thier all by composer Samuel Hazo

it's sick.

this is slightly off topic but

uuum what show? do u mean our pirates of the caribbean show?

Opener Second Piece Closer

im interested in what the formations will be. anywayz we haven't changed any of it yet though cornutts talkin about cutting out a segment of the first movement and inserting a drum break there. i hope they change the tenor part to the opener cuz its extremely boring and simple.

Sorry, I was quoting this

As for the pirates show, wow man I saw schools march that when I went to HS. For your lines sake I really hope that they do rewrite that "book." I'm not knocking you guys (but rather the arranger) but those drum parts sound like they could be played by the color guard.

yeah, Samuel Hazo, really great Wind Ensemble composer, should be a tight show.

The wind parts for the POTC show aren't that bad though, you just need a drum tech to beef up those parts and your band will be all set

It's kinda at that level where you can play the whole thing (all instruments) with one hand. Wouldn't be a bad warm up, but...

Listening to the winds it seems like there's a lot of potential for a really good drum book out of that.

haha, funny thing was we actually came up with an accent tap exercise based on one part of the second movement... the one with the split thing going between bass-tenor-snare-bass-tenor-snare about 1:05 in the recording

btw, rehearsal footage of our opener:
Mountain View Opener, battery and pit

really, really rough. bassline still needs work, but since everyone's in summer school, i think we're gonna have a pretty damn good battery next year. having sectionals everyday and all.

and anyone who watched, anyone hear that little BD'97 quote in there?

they are tiny. bass 1 is a 14 inch and i think our bass 5 is like 24 inches. so yeah, haha. my drum instructor is considering borrowing one of his brothers' school's bass 5 to get more of that bass 5 thump/tone in

We start Band Camp July 28- August 8. Percussion camp was every thursday for the last 4 weeks of school. 3 snare 4 bass 2 tenors. Oddly enough, we don't even have the show music yet, when the past couple of years we got it 2 days before school ended. BAND CAMP IS GONNA SCK EVEN MORE frown

My percussion camp starts late this month T_T

But thankfully i'm able to have my tenors at my house. I'm going to a percussion camp at clemson university that wants us to bring our own drums. which is really soon.

Rookie week just started today, till thursday, but the section leaders and captains and stuff go too.

Actual band camp is the 2 weeks after that.

We started last week also. For the last week, we had three 3 hour rehearsals, and two 6 hour 'rehearsals'. I put the second one in quotes because for the last 3 hours we did some boring leadership stuff.

We leave for band camp tomorrow, which last 4 days, at a camp up at the lake. I'm excited!

We have a really tiny ensemble this year:

  • 2 snare
  • 1 quint
  • 4 bass
  • 4 pit

I'm excited to see what we can do with this. =]

We picked the drumline in April.
Did a mini camp in june and started official band camp in July.

It's a state year so...lots of rehearsals
but then again, lots of fun wink
