yeah, Samuel Hazo, really great Wind Ensemble composer, should be a tight show.

The wind parts for the POTC show aren't that bad though, you just need a drum tech to beef up those parts and your band will be all set

It's kinda at that level where you can play the whole thing (all instruments) with one hand. Wouldn't be a bad warm up, but...

Listening to the winds it seems like there's a lot of potential for a really good drum book out of that.

haha, funny thing was we actually came up with an accent tap exercise based on one part of the second movement... the one with the split thing going between bass-tenor-snare-bass-tenor-snare about 1:05 in the recording

btw, rehearsal footage of our opener:
Mountain View Opener, battery and pit

really, really rough. bassline still needs work, but since everyone's in summer school, i think we're gonna have a pretty damn good battery next year. having sectionals everyday and all.

and anyone who watched, anyone hear that little BD'97 quote in there?

they are tiny. bass 1 is a 14 inch and i think our bass 5 is like 24 inches. so yeah, haha. my drum instructor is considering borrowing one of his brothers' school's bass 5 to get more of that bass 5 thump/tone in

I didn't even know Pearl made basses that small, but then again, I haven't llooked at any instruments for a while.

We start Band Camp July 28- August 8. Percussion camp was every thursday for the last 4 weeks of school. 3 snare 4 bass 2 tenors. Oddly enough, we don't even have the show music yet, when the past couple of years we got it 2 days before school ended. BAND CAMP IS GONNA SCK EVEN MORE frown

just kiddin

my line is goin to be 3 snares 5 basses 2 tenors and 2 cymbals.
about 5 - 7 in pit

we're getting a new top bass this year. when we added a 5th bass my director and instructor decided to make it a smaller top bass rather than a bigger bottom bass.

but yea 14...dang thats small dude
