i wonder, if you're like 4 feet away from the long ranger with the dr beat wired through it so the whole band could hear it, how damaging to hearing would it be after like 30 minutes of exposure? i mean without earplugs or anything.

Well, because of the higher frequency of the Dr. Beat and the volume that the Long Ranger is capable of producing, I would bet that you could do a lot of damage to your hearing.

Why would you do that to begin with?

It most likely wouldn't have any long term effect as long as you aren't doing that everyday. But, everyones different.

Maybe if the Dr. is backfield for a full rehearsal setup and the drumline happens to be placed on the back sideline, or something similar? You shouldn't really be 4 feet away from the Long Ranger with it cranked like that.

Depending on the decibel level, even half an hour is enough to cause long term damage. However:

The drums you're banging on for several hours at a time every time you rehearse are doing a lot more damage to your hearing than the dr. beat. Get some earplugs!

the dr beat through the long ranger is usually with the battery because we establish the beat and if it was farther away, then the problem of phasing pops up. last year it blasted in my ear, but i think im ok for now...

yea but if it's ten feet away rather than right in your ear you won't have a phasing problem.

The long ranger seems dangerous. Its killed a bee in our band room before...

If it could do something like that (the bee flew right in front of it) it will probably hurt in some way if you're too close.

My drumline plays with the Dr beat through the long ranger EVERY day. It is right behind the center snares feet, who I'm standing right next to. My hearings fine =)

A few days ago we spent about an hour playing with the pit outside and we had the Dr. Beat cranked up all the way, and we were right near two walls so all the sound was being amplified. My hearing was all fuzzy for almost a whole day after that.
