Our Vibe motor at school recently conked out on us. It turns on (the light is on)but does not spin. Is there any way we can get this fixed? Should we bring in an electrician? or just deal with it?

You really use that??

I tend to rip those out, mostly because of the electrical issue. If you're working or playing at a school the best resource is the guys down in the auto shop, or electrical shop if you have one. some of the physic guys are closet electrical freaks, so check there before you out source.

i would not try messing with something like this too much. Check that all the wires have a strong contact point, you might need to sadder. but dont get in over your head.

Good Luck!

Did you check the belt for the motor and see if it was broken? If you can still hear the motor running and it could possibly the belt, but I'm not sure. I'd contact Bill Youhass at Fall Creek http://www.fallcreekmarimbas.com/ Replacing those motors can get pricey.

Our vibe has been broken for a very long time. I don't even remember the last time it even had a motor on it.

What we did was use the string on a sweatshirt and weave it through to the spinner, and just pull the string in different directions.

It worked quite well, but got annoying because it would take 2 people to run just one instrument...

Unless you have some vibe solo during the show, I wouldn't bother spending money to fix it. When you are playing with the rest of the band, no one will notice or complain about it, and the judge probably won't be picky enough to inspect whether the motor is running or not. If you think you can fix it, go for it. I just don't think it's worth the trouble of spending money on it.

In all my years, except for concert solos, I've never heard of a pit that used motors on their vibes. I doubt many people would notice a change like that.
