Generally speaking, what application do you guys use for writing cadences when at a computer? Im not talking about Sibelius vs. Finale neccesarily, but more or less other apps not made for that kindof composing. Like I find my self composing some in FL studio (Fruity loops formerly) with a soundfont that I paid for (DDT, sounds pretty good actually...). I was wondering if anyone else does anything similar to this, and gets similar results as me.
you see, in the cadences written in FL, they have weird little errors that I don't find till I write them out in finale. For instance, a cadence I wrote called "The Funky Bass" had to have a 15/16 and a 17/16 measure because I accidentally wrote a string of 16th tripets (6) on the e of 4.
Also, I can tell that It isnt exactly what I wanted at the end.
sometimes these cadences are even better than ones written in finale, in theory anyway. Like they will groove really well, but then go off into weird passages that really suck.
Overall I enjoy writing in FL because it makes me think differently. Instead of thinking in standard notation, I write in the piano roll. Would these little errors be fixed just by being edited by an actual percussionist?
heres that cadence the funky bass... listen and see if you know what i'm talking about...
